The team going forward???
« on: March 15, 2015, 01:12:02 PM »

Just wondering the thoughts on the team going forward.  At present I feel this is our best 11 and formation is :-

                    Coburn ( GK )

Densmore ( RB )   Havern ( CB )           Leather ( CB )           Griffin ( LB )

         Cav ( CM )               Moult ( DM )

                    Richman
( CM but in reality all over the pitch )

       Crowther ( RF )                   Clee ( LF )
             Reeves ( CF )

I appreciate we have had some tough games but reverting back to 4-4-2 doesn’t work, it was clear how much we missed Richman yesterday, we defo need three in midfield in this league. Looking forward we need to look for more consistant attacking wide players who can take people on and put a decent ball in:-
Crowther – Still not convinced but can have a few good moments
Clee – Class, ageing and is injured a LOT!
Lawrie – Frustrates the hell out of me, soft, lazy at times but can get us some goals but for me his only position is central behind the striker.
Sinnott – Sluggish, not enough pace but has potential to put a ball in.

Perry deserved a couple of games after the Macc second half but he has a different mentality when he starts. He never seems up for it and is very very lazy. Reeves shot in the first half yesterday which the keeper parried and he was miles away. I would get rid in the summer but if he must stay then an impact player at the best.

Marshall has improved a lot and I even thought we may have not conceded two goals from corners with his presence. I will never be 100% convinced like I am with Luca, but he has improved.

Massive improvements with some players this season from what I have seen:-
Richman - for me is player of the season just for his effort ad energy
Moult -  always an unsung hero, he was excellent yesterday and breaks up so many attacks
Griffin - improved by ten times the player he was, energy and now stands up to players rather than diving in
Dens – his energy, over lapping attacking and crosses have been so dangerous and I felt he started badly but we miss him so much when out injured
Reeves - work rate and holding the ball up has been excellent

To release in the summer? Sinnott ? Gillespie, Perry!

Overall I feel we have played great football but I would defo go back to the above formation with three in the midfield, two wide wingers / forwards to push on to support Reevesy and having Dens and Griff bombing on as we have Cav and Moult to cover. I feel when we have Lawrie and Perry starting we have lost so much energy and the opposition has far more room on the pitch. I watched Cav yesterday at right back when he was high up, he lost the ball and was screaming at Lawrie to run back, he wasn’t going to follow his man until shouted at. With Dens you might get away with it as he has the energy to run up and down all day, also their first goal came from a soft Lawrie challenge in which he should have won the ball. Very talented player but this league is about composure, energy and big hearts.

Lawrie seems to have played his best in the No10 position behind Reevesy. Worth looking at that again?

The best position for Lawrie is on the bench! The most frustrating player at the club! I don't even think he knows which James Lawrie has turned up for the match!

Lawrie can be very frustrating, but wouldn't get rid.
He is played many times in the wrong position, but does his best.
I agree, his best position is playing behind Reevs.
The one thing about Lawrie, he can produce that bit of magic and win a game.
I know a lot will say that's not enough to keep him.

I am one of them.........if we are to improve the team for next season by releasing (say) four and replacing with four more, then Lawrie along with Gillespie and Perry are the first three candidates on the list.........the fourth is a toss-up between three others

No case for Jordan Sinnott to stay. Greg Wilkinson won't be back either.  Lawrie is a puzzle!

Defo keep Lawrie as he can be a game winner but would be a sub and only brought on behind Reeves

He can be a game winner.  He can stand out like a beacon, and then next game fall flat on his arse.  That's the puzzle with James Lawrie.

Play lawrie behind reeves then we have a good player if he is on the wing he is a waste of time it's simple keep him play him behind reeves and we will benefit

Why get rid of Parton? He was obviously brought in as a long term replacement for Stu.
