If I put horrendously blurry images like that up, people would tell me...right?

The keeper's flouncy leap is exactly as I recall - with Marshall nowhere near him.  And as you can see keeper is not exactly looking at the ball

Goalkeepers are overprotected

I must have said that hundreds of times in my reffing career after giving what seemed like soft free kicks.....as i suspect have many officials at all levels.

There is a reason for it, and I know that this is wrong what I'm saying.

If you give a free kick then most people have forgotten about it and moved on to your next "howler" within ten minutes and two days later it may as well have not happened.

If you don't and a goal occurs, you can't "ungive" it as it is a matter of record and will be there for perpetuity

From behind the play (or wherever the ref was) it might have looked like there was significant contact. From the side where we were it was obvious that there was some distance between Tom and the keeper at the point when the keeper missed it .
The ref may have an excuse but the lino must have had a better view. The ball was in the net so there was an opportunity for the ref to consult. He just didn't bother.

Not much contact there - looks like he just plain missed it

Apart from Marshall's hand and elbow tickling the goalkeeper's ribs.
