Best wishes Mike in your future career, you have been very unlucky with the injuries after making a superb start to your Alty career. Good luck.

It is very sad news for Mike

But we have to deal with the reality of how it effects us, in truth he was average at best and should never been kept on for this season after such a serious injury - it was obvious to us all that he was never going to get back to the required level

Sad news for Mike, but best for all concerned

Best of luck Mike, your future health is more important than football.

Sad news for the guy, wish him well. Be interested to see who we line up to replace him in the squad. I think he was kept on more in hope than expectation that he'd be up to the grade but now a sad final line has been drawn under it we need to examine who our 3rd/4th centre half will be. Ideally someone of Mike William's ilk who can play left/right back as weel to avoid having to drag Leather away from centre back.

Cult, could we start an Alty XI of players who've Alty career's have been cut short fairly early on in the piece. I'm sure I remember for starter a guy called Dave Serella who was meant to be quite a good player but suffered a serious knee injury about 25 minutes into his debut (and in the 80's a cruciate ligament injury really was career ending compared to now).

Brendan Burke would fit quite nicely into this category.

Gutting for him to overcome that injury to be hit by something unrelated, especially to have to stop playing at 28.  All the best for the future.

Very sorry for Mike Williams. He looked real quality at the start of last season and it is terrible for him to have to quit so young - good luck in the future Mike.

Ballers,

There's definitely some potential as regards your aforementioned suggestion.

However, I don't think that it would be fair to follow up on that idea here and hijack a thread that's devoted to Mike Williams' premature retirement.

You start a brand new thread on that topic and I'll be glad to contribute.
