Why does Rod not get a regular start?
« on: April 22, 2007, 12:19:45 PM »

Rod has consistently looked the liveliest player when he's been on the pitch whether he comes on from the bench or on his rare starts. This also seems to have a similar effect on other players and we look like a team that can create more. If it is simply down to havinmg Colin and Joe up front then he has proved more than capable of playing a useful role on the wing. Alternatively, is it simply down to fitness? This is the only reason I can think of that would prevent him from playing more but I would've expected him to be one of the fittest players we have giving his involvement with that side of things for Utd and England? Can anyone shed any light on this?

Also, forgot to add that if its simply so we have someone who can change things from the bench...we have proved this season that we are more effective at holding a lead that chasing one!

Re. Thornley

(a) He is never fit enough;

(b) He rarely lasts for 90 minutes when he starts;

(c) his finishing ability has been in decline for some time, as demonstrated by his poor control when clean through on goal at Tamworth yesterday;

(d) recent injuries have deprived him of that key burst of pace that he possessed when he first arrived at Moss Lane.

I think generally the Cult is correct.

He cannot last 90 mins, but I would consider giving him 60+ agianst the shots, we will need to win.

The injuries have deprived him of pace, but your touch only comes when playing more often.
