...... but not just yet.

So ? How was it for you ?

15 days and 48 qualifying matches, a 4 month ban for Luis Suarez and the ‘Fat Lady Is Clearing Her Throat’ in the TASC World Cup Prediction Competition as the dust settles on the final round of qualifying matches.

The final two games in Group G saw Germany beat the USA 1-0 in Recife and Portugal win 2-1 over Ghana in Brasilia. Only one team (Pukka Is Best) came up with an all correct score prediction in the USA v Germany match and no one with an all correct prediction in the Portugal v Ghana match.

The results meant that Sarah Rowley’s lead was cut to just one point by Shortdean United ahead of the final two games in Group H.

Belgium’s 1-0 win over South Korea provided 3 all correct score predictions, from fourth placed The Hand of God, Barkley’s Brave Hearts and Pukka is Best (his second 3 pointer of the day). Leader Sarah Rowley only managed 1 point so it was all down to the last match, Algeria v Russia.

3 more all correct predictions for the 1-1 score line and only 1 point again for Sarah.

The teams picking up 3 point maximums were Rio De Timperley, GC XI and of course ……….. Pete Foster !!!.

Not only was this Pete’s second 3 point maximum, but it also lifted him off the bottom of the table at the death overtaking Derek Wilshaw’s Wilmslow Wanderers -  Sorry Derek !

At the top of the table, Sarah Rowley managed to pick up just 5 points from the last 4 matches on the day, it was however sufficient to maintain her 2 point overnight lead to finish at the top of the table with just the points to be added from the predictions for winners, runners up and 3rd & 4th places.

The battle for second place really hotted up and no less than three teams finished level on 60 points. Potters Mould currently edge it with 7 all correct predictions followed by Hand of God with 5 and Shortdean United on 3.

The final table after all the qualifying matches is: (The second figure is the number of correct score predictions)

1   Sarah Rowley                   62   6
2   Potters Mould                   60   7
3   The Hand of God           60   5
4   Shortdean United           60   3
5   GC XI                           57   5
T6   Rio De Timperley           56   5
T6   Pukka Is Best                   56   5
8   Barkley's Brave Harts           56   4
9   Groucho's Gooners           55   4
10   The Flaggers                   54   2
11   Foz                                   53   3
12   Super Doopers                   52   2
13   I'll Beat George                   51   3
14   Mauritian Flyer                   50   5
15   Gilmore                           50   3
16   Hardly Athletic                   50   2
17   One Over The Eight           49   2
18   Timperley Toon                   47   4
19   Phil Jones                           47   3
20   Good Guessers                   46   3
21   They Think It's All Over       44   4
22   All Roads To Rio - BR - 116   43   1
23   We're On The First Plane Home   41   3
24   Pete Foster                      39   2
25   Wilmslow Wanderers           37   1

So it’s all down to who wins, who gets beaten in the final and who finishes in 3rd & 4th place and who has made the correct predictions.

Unfortunately for leader Sarah Rowley, three of her four predictions, Spain, Italy and Portugal have already fallen by the wayside, only Brazil finishing as beaten finalists can add to her points tally.

Of the three teams on 60 points, Potters Mould and Shortdean United have both gone for Brazil to win whilst Hand Of God has gone for Argentina. All three team have lost Spain as a potential points scorer.

The final placed selections of the top four are as follows:

1   Sarah Rowley                     Spain, Brazil, Italy, Portugal
2   Potters Mould                   Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Germany
3   The Hand of God           Argentina, Germany, Brazil, Spain
4   Shortdean United           Brazil, Germany, Spain, Columbia

Bring on the knockout stages
