I was on that bloody Godfrey Abbot coach that Gazelle refers to - I reckon it was for the Northern Premier League cup match in 1978 which we drew 2-2 and Peter Eales saved a penalty.

My first visit to Canal Street was for the FA Cup 4th qualifying round game the previous season which we lost 2-1.  We then made it to the 1st round proper of the FA CUp for the next 11 seasons (quite often with a bye!)

And in the spirit of tonights FA Trophy game, the most memorable involved a notable Mal Bailey header and a landmark in our history!

Yes, I'm sure that was the one.

And it poured down all game.

I recollect several laps of Runcorn Shopping City whilst our bemused driver had 'directions' barked at him by one Dennis Birch.

Canal St....easiest ground in the world to find.....those turnings signposted old town or shopping city hardest junctions in the world to resist trying!!

the trick actually was to stay on that dual carriageway until you were sure you'd gone way too far at which point the ground would reveal itself!
