It's in the last ten years or so in particular when our Trophy record has been terrible. Only three wins in the competition in the last eight seasons and we were lucky to get one of those (Curzon, after the floodlight failure debacle game that Jack mentions).

I always felt in our last spell in the conference that the team had to raise itself so often against big full time clubs to get the required points that it almost led to a stepping off of the gas in the FA trophy fixtures. As a top 4 northern league club, we should be the sort of tie everyone in the bottom half of the conference would ideally want to avoid, especially at moss lane should we manage to get through the Colwyn bay tie.

If the ice on Walshaws ankle at the end was precautionary then I would expect the same team to start at Colwyn Bay and I think it will.

Therefore the manager will have put out a team that can beat Colwyn Bay.

The players need to step up on Saturday and get us into the hat for the next round.

Looking forward to it.

I effing loved the FA Trophy.

The 1986 FA Trophy run was a tremendous experience for me. The final was a bit dull to be honest, and Wembley is a strange place with only 16000 people in it, but the earlier games all had great atmosphere. The semi-final second leg at Moss Lane was probably the best Altrincham game I ever saw; better even than the FA Cup wins at Blackpool and Birmingham.

I think it was the year after when we drew Fisher Athletic in an early round, a game Altrincham won  in the THIRD replay. I'll never forget the sight of one of the Fisher players dropping to his knees  distraught at the final whistle.

The particular lowlight for me (which I expected, and ducked the game) was the defeat at FCUM.

It would be great to have a run in the Trophy......but not at the expense of our promotion prospects. We can't afford a fixture pile up like the one Halifax had last year when our squad is so thin.

and who got promoted last season via playoffs?       Halifax >:( >:(

Because they had a squad of sufficient size to cope. We could be starting games with ten men and no subs by April..........

Every season the club should be setting out to get promoted, win the FA Trophy and make the third round of the FA Cup. No one has the luxury of being able to pick and chose the competitions they win. The majority win nothing.

I really like what LS has had to say about this game on the official site. Feels like a welcome change of tone from his usual statements - I hope it's carried through into his teamtalk and the team performance. Let's have 'em!
