Just seen the highlights of the Newcastle v Sunderland match and both teams were wearing stripes (black/red with white). Why can 2 teams wear stripes in the Premier League but not in the BS North?

bigger clash is surely GKs and refs wearing same kit, was the case in at least 2 Premiership games at weekend, both wearing Yellow shirts

Ths stripes thing is a bit of a rum one tbh.

I believe that the rationale for the decision by certain Leagues to implement this was the comparatively poor standard of floodlights at the lower levels of Contributory League football. This can cause some degree of "gloominess" where colours seem to be greyed out. You can't have different regulations for afternoon and evening Kick Offs hence the rule.
Obviously at Premier League level the better standard lights mean it's like playing in TESCO and there is no problem differentiating.

re the Colour Clash Goalkeeper v Referee, this always surprises me as the Clubs are required to submit their intended kits to the League well in advance. Having got this info the Premier League then tell the Match officials what shirt to wear so as to avoid the colour clash we are talking about here.
