Portsmouth
« on: April 09, 2013, 05:33:10 PM »

So it would seem it is likely that Portsmouth will be expelled from the Football League, they need to come out of administration by the end of the season.

Should they be expelled do you think the Conference would accept them?

They would surely be the biggest outfit to grace level 5?

Would it be viable to have them at level 7?

We played them in the Lancashire Combination Division 2 in 1909-10.  They were called Portsmouth Rovers back then.  We finished second behind Stalybrdige Celtic and were promoted.  They finished second bottom and dropped out of the league.

The Conference would beg them to join. But this sort of thing makes it harder for Altrincham to ever get the place in the football league that they were robbed of all those years ago.

Just like they did with Chester City. And who paid the price?
They will be resurrected as a phoenix club with lots of money having not had to pay their debts. Morally very very wrong.
Why should former FL clubs be given this advantage over the likes of Alty?

Up in Scotland Rangers stayed in the Scottish League, even less of a penalty than Pompey may get.

To be fair are they to come in the conference people are critical before anything has happened and going down 3 leauges for rangers in terms of how big clubs can do what they want is a fairly big punishment

Sorry, but the record should be put straight on this one. Portsmouth Rovers FC, based in the village of Portsmouth which is on the way from Todmorden to Burnley, were members of the Lancs Comb Div 2 1911-15. We played them in season 1911-12, winning 3-2 at home & 4-1 away. There is no connection with a certain club from the south coast!

I presume AFC Bury would start in NWC league and would rent Gigg Lane from FCUM

1332:
 FOOTBALL
Bury will go out of business in days unless they get £1m of investment, according to the League One club. "The situation is now critical, we are quickly running out of money by trying short term fixes that are not working long term," a club statement on Bury's official website reads.

"The club desperately needs £1m of external investment to secure the long-term future of the club. Without this investment the club will cease to trade and there will be no more professional football played at Gigg Lane."

A comment as a Pompey local, a frequent visitor to Fratton Park and the husband of shareholder in the Supporters Trust....
After the court case today it's looking like the Supporters Trust now own the club and the ground and the club will be able to come out of administration. They won't have settled all the debts in full and so I believe that will trigger another 10 point deduction but they just be relegated to League 2 rather than expelled.

Not paying their debts is immoral and wrong but the Supporters Trust are trying to do the right thing going forward.
They won't have massive re-investment and the trust's business plan doesn't have them breaking even for a several years but the long term plan is for stability and living within their means.

How many teams do we need to go bump to get automatic promotion to Conference National?

Assume 4 or 5 would need to go bump:-

Bury
Portsmouth
Stockport  - possibly

Two more needed lol.
