"It was just two world class players going for a 50/50 ball."

John King's description of a crunching tackle on Ossie Ardiles in the FA Cup Third Round tie at White Hart Lane: 10th January 1979.

A load of flannel.

What is there that actually identifies why we're conceding goals? 'With the personnel we have we should be conceding less' - so, what? We're just going to do that are we? How exactly?

We'll find out against Histon, until then stop taking chunks out of him.

It is a load of flannel. What exactly will we find out against Histon? We beat them 3-0 at home last year and then conceded lots more throughout!

We'll learn sod all from Saturday. Histon will be in the bottom six this season, and that's being generous. We'll learn plenty next Tuesday at Gainsborough though. They've started badly too, and it could well be down to who shows the most character.

Indeed. Whilst it's essential that we beat Histon on Saturday let's not kid ourselves. They are going to be right down there and appear to have a tiny budget to match by all accounts. I want to see what happens when we play a top half outfit. Gainsborough beat us twice last season, that will be the true test as to if we can recover from our woeful start to the season.

If we conceed 3 then we will have found out that we are genuine strugglers this season unless there are major changes.

What we know already is that nothing major has changed so far this season from last. And that's the biggest gutter for me.

Three years of wasted pre-season hope

We're now dismissing victories before they even happen.

Dear me.
