As per my old school, with the letter being ability and the number effort - I go for C3:

C - A manager of proven ability at this level, but unable to get the defence anything like sorted
3 - Some inspired moments countered by others where he did not seem to react.

Conclusion: OK, great promise at times, but room for improvement

for me to score 90 goals and only get 61 points is most certainly not a solid C

On the other hand it's better than not scoring the 90 goals at all. Blame him for a shoddy defence, but credit for the attack is certainly due (which is what most people seem to think with the good and the bad cancelling out and giving him a C).

Could and should have done better.  Hopefully Lee will be more settled in more after the break and come back with a bang.  The year for Lee to find his feet has now passed, it's time for results from the off in August.

This.

If you start a thread to grade the manager then please expect fans to grade him.

I too expected a play off position as a minimum and to be honest so did most other fans?

My concern would be the inability to manage the team to take points, we have thrown away so many games when in the lead. Good managers can structure their team on the field to defend when needed even if it is not pretty to watch. Even against the best in the world this can be done (Chelsea/Barca), just good discipline and structured defending.

I might give Lee a "C", but is "C" really good enough?

Yes we should expect "A" next season Like we did this!

Will we let our expectations slip like we did this year and except mediocrity?

Genuine question:

Are people "accepting mediocrity" or are they simply accepting that we're not automatically entitled to be in the top 5 just because we're Alty?

I'm just as disappointed as anyone else by our failure to earn promotion and can't comment directly on most of our performances this season. However, it seems to me that there is a huge difference between being realistic and simply being happy with averageness.

If we're concerned about running out of letters, I suggest we take a leaf out of credit rating agencies books.
I would award a BBB-,  just worthy of further investment - but definitely under ongoing scrutiny.

Positives
-Tries to play attractive football, lots of goals, seems to have got he best out of Reeves, giving youth teamers a chance.

Negatives
- Never truly in contention for a play off place (only in them for a week or so all season, 2 shambolic cup defeats - one away at a team from the league below, one at home to a team two leagues below (although not much worse then every other recent manager in this case), 27 games without a single clean sheet and only 3 all season, ridiculous amount of goals scored, some odd tactics at times

and most worryingly some appaling player recruitment, starting off with giving all of last seasons tripe the chance to stay, transfer wise only Redshaw, Lawrie and to an extent Flynn M could be said to have been upto scratch. This season's gone, I think it should have been better but as we can see, people have different views on that so it's where we go from here that counts and I'm not sure LS and NT have the contacts or nous to take us forward based on what I've seen.

I hope I'm wrong. However, if you look at the season like this I'm afraid I'm heading closer to John Crewe's F than the C's that others are suggesting.

The day we accept being mediocre is the day when we should shut the door. But I knew this season was going to be a tough one. After years of struggling at the bottom end of BSP, there had to be a rebuild period to get ourselves back in shape, losing the mentality of keeping teams out before attacking away from home (a mentality we needed as the season grew). The one major thing that LS got wrong was keeping most of the side that got relegated. By January/February, we had the only players that you would want to keep from last season (Coburn,Densmore,Clee,Reeves, and stuck with Twiss). but by then it was too late.

Though we haven't achieved to set out what we wanted to do this season, I feel we weren't a million miles away from what we wanted when you look at the teamsheet towards the end of the season. We have made some cracking signings going forward (Lawrie, Redshaw, Watmore), and during the summer if we sign similar standard defenders, we will be in a good position to challenge at the top.

As has been said, we need to get the ground running straight away. LS will be looking at potential signings now no doubt, but need to have the starting 11 ready for the 2nd or 3rd pre-season game so we can get as many wins as possible to start the season.

I wish it wasn't so but I find myself agreeing with this.

I've defended Lee all season and am inclined to continue to do so but there have been times where I just can't understand what he is thinking.

Overall I have to say there has been some very entertaining football which makes a change but it's been so frustrating knowing that with a tighter defence we could have had a real shot at promotion this year.

Highlight for me was the entertaining game of Vauxhall away lowlight was the ridiculous goals we've given away.
