Not to my knowledge.

We did contrive to lose at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels in a Unibond Challenge Cup tie back in February 2001.

And Trafford defeated us at Moss Lane in the same competition during the following season.

However, my personal nomination would be the 1-0 home defeat versus Pwllheli in the FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round back in December 1973.

It was a good Trafford side though.  ;)

AP Leamington (I think) 82/83 - not so much a lower level team as a really bad one in the same league. They came from behind to win their first game of the season and this was well into the 2nd half of the season. A lot of dissatisfied Alty fans cheered them on that day - after several seasons of incredible Alty success, it confirmed our decline and it drew a line under that era for me at the time.

Pwhelli and District - their winger having to take a breather on the half way line in the second half because he was too knackered to run

AP Leamington - Barry Whitbread fires us 2-0 up with a fine flying volley against a team that has not won all season and they score 3 times in the last 15 minutes.

I also nominate Cheltenham Town bottom of the Southern League lower division without an away point.  Our previous match a draw at White Hart Lane.  Their leading goal scorer has to play in nets as their keeper couldn't get time off work.  We were 2-0 down in 15 minutes: Peter Eales looked too pissed to stand up.  A brilliant JR goal on the hour, but not a lot of pressure.  We were FA Trophy Holders and this was our first match in it's defence.  rubbish!

Ah, Dave Lewis - a name that I'll never forget.

That really was a mortifying defeat.

Paul,

The match you refer to actually took place on Saturday, 13th February 1982.

I remember that a few of Alty's 'old guard' were dropped for the following Wednesday evening's visit to Telford United, when a side including the likes of Paul Cuddy; John Cavanah; Lawrence Iro and Paul Round lost 4-3.

Cheltenham for sure, and I remember being very upset in the Unibond at a defeat by rock bottom Emley. A defeat by Great Harwood in the early 70's resulted in me voting with my feet for two months or so.

I was traumatised for weeks after that game. It really was a "this can't be happening" sort of game.  :o
