Today's Altrincham FC Trivia Question
« on: April 28, 2011, 06:19:33 PM »

(Prompted by the current goalkeeping fiasco at Tamworth).

Identify those outfield players who have also played as a goalkeeper for Alty during a competitive first team fixture.

(I can think of four so far, off the top of my head....but there may well be others...)

Chris Adams against Harrogate in addition to the 3 already mentioned.

Nigel Shaw must be the only one to START the game in goals though.

What a farce, and what a day to face Wycombe the runaway league leaders!

In fact Altrincham FC Trivia Question part 2.

How many of the Altrincham goal keepers from seasons 1992/93 and 1993/94 can you name?

Indeed, that must surely rank as the nadir of that abject season when Stan Allan was Alty's manager.

As for the 1992/93 season under Gerry Quinn, I'll go for:

Mike Pollitt;

Joe Paladino;

Ray Dennis (truly awful);

Wayne "Uncle Fester" Baker;

Andy Newell;

Andy Gorton.

Think that we started the 93/94 season with the excellent Tim Clarke and finished it with Paul Collings..?

(I suppose that you should always mention Ian Senior in the answers to such questions, just in case it was a season when he made one of his 37 comebacks....!).

Sorry Cult, my seasons were mixed up. I did in fact mean name the dozen or so keeper's who played for us in the 1991/92 'campaign' under Stan Allan and for the last bit John Davison.

Has ever a club managed to go 28 games unbeaten in one season and lose 13 on the bounce in the next?

I seem to remember Mad Dog finishing a game in goal once. And did Gary Talbot play the last 5 minutes in nets on one occasion a few years back ?

Jeff Wealands (that was the season he retired, I believe);

Steve Roberts (local character - Broadheath Central?);

Steve Berryman (once of Cambridge United, I think; subsequently played for the Vics);

Mark Davies (originally at Alty in the 1985/86 season);

Nigel Shaw (as already mentioned in this thread).

Ah yes, I recall that one now.

Paul Collings managed to get himself sent off.

Didn't we start the season with three defeats and a red card in each of those games?
