I bloody love the name Radio Robins as well... keep getting a Partridge-esque jingle in my head whenever I say it, and keep getting it mixed up with Radio Rentals...

Apologies if anyone has been cut off from the broadcast this afternoon - I had a couple of issues with my internet connection and this meant the audio stream went off

Cheers,
Paul

Marvellous, nostalgic stuff.

Many thanks to all those who have contributed to this project.

I cannot believe the comments from that Philip Mason chap, who even seems to be defending Les Rigby's tenure as the manager at Moss Lane!

That is one of the most bizarre things I have ever heard.

For those who are not aware.....Les Rigby singlehandedly dismantled an excellent Alty team.......the one that got us to Everton. He was a very decent bloke, but an unmitigated disaster as a manager. The caller indicated that his results were better than had been achieved by Roy Rees (1971-75) & as an Altrincham fan he had the information available to prove his point.Ludicrous does not do it justice & it reminded me of a Monty Python radio sketch called 'Stake Your Claim'.

Listen to the first caller!

That was great, listened to the last 4/5 callers, just great to hear even if it was 78.
A caller who was 78, was it JTH?

Great idea Flynny and it works too!

I couldnt believe the moaning bunch of buggers, especially when we know what happened shortly after, ie getting to wembley, thrashing Leatherhead and then winning the APL two years running 79/80 and 80/81 plus wembley again in 1982.

I wonder what the tone would be now if Graham and Kenny did a radio phone in at present ;D

Absolutly superb stuff and great to listen to that nostalgic clip.

What people were saying especially that one going on about Les Rigby was just unfathomable and the thought that kept jumping into my head while listenign was imagining what Geoff Goodwin's reaction to these moaners would have been!!!! I'd love Geoff to listen to this and see his reaction....

We were bloody lucky actually that at the end of the interview Noel didn't just turn round and say "I've had enough of this"

Thats exactly what I thought.

Imagine when he got in the car driving home after that, I don't think there was one positive!!

On reflection, that 1977/78 season was a bit of a strange one.

In truth, we never really threatened to make a realistic challenge for the NPL title.

Disappointingly knocked out of the FA Cup by Runcorn at the Fourth Qualifying Round stage (yes, I know that this has now become par for the course for us.....but expectations were higher back then!).

The signing of Kingy in late November rallied us but we did still contrive to lose at Cammell Laird in the Cheshire Senior Cup.

In the five matches prior to that radio phone-in, we had only managed one victory and had suffered three defeats, including a 5-1 drubbing at Gateshead.

Thankfully, we went on an FA Trophy run culminating in that never-to-be-forgotten day at Wembley on 29th April 1978.

His answers sounded familiar, now in recent Alty history I haven't been too impressed with Noel White to be honest but thinkinng back to how he was in those dark meeting of the early part of the 2000s I now understand why. He's spent a whole lifetime battling off hecklers!

The first memory i have of Noel White was him giving out freebies outside the ground.

I've been hooked ever since.

He has a lot to answer for...
