Was just reading about Graham Carr, former footballer and father of Alan Carr.

Wikipedia says he played for us and won an FA Trophy medal, is this true?

The way I read that he played for Telford. We didn't win the Trophy till 1978.

I know he definately played for us. Don't think he was in our trophy winning side though.

The Cult will provide the factual detail, but I think that he played for us in the 1960's.....definitely pre 1972.

I seem to remember him going on to manage Weymouth &  Nuneaton as well.

Graham Carr made 12 Northern Premier League appearances during the early stages of the 1970/71 season.

Laurie Brown was the player-manager at Moss Lane at that time and he had played alongside Carr at Bradford Park Avenue.

He was a member of Telford United's 1971 FA Trophy winning team.

Carr was the manager of Weymouth when we knocked them out of the FA Trophy in a Quarter Final Replay at Moss Lane back in March 1977.

IMO (and I saw most of his appearances) he was pretty poor for us (as was Brown actually - but at least he tried and had no ego about him)

Without doubt (also only in my humble opinion) the best centre back we had in that era up to the turn of the seventies was Brian 'Bopper' Taylor (Who bought me and three mates all a pint in Matlock after a night away game and wouldn't take one back)

Bopper's replacement in the early seventies, Gerry Casey, was of course another cracker - as was his partner at Centre back, the great Johnny Owens

Ye Gods Saughall - The Bopper ! He had a way of looking incredibly clumsy, but he was almost unbeatable in the air ! A great favourite of mine from way back !

Whenever Alan Carr's on the telly I tell Jennifer's Mum his dad used to play for Alty.

I think she's a wee bit sick of that now!
