There is a chance
« on: September 11, 2010, 06:49:32 PM »

A few points :-
I was not at the game today so cannot comment. According to previous match reports Gateshead murdered Southport in the week......a team who were flying high until then. So it's no surprise to me we got beat there today (although I was expecting a point).

If we can turn things around and put some points on the board, then it won't take much to get out of the bottom four.

The majority of the people of the town don't value the club and hence home support is poor. This is the core problem and I cannot see it changing.

Many 'posters' on here were far to optimistic (bordering on the ridiculous) after last season, making this seasons very poor start seem far worse than it actually is. Gateshead were in a very similar position 5 days ago.

It's not over yet.

Is it really worse than what people are saying ?? If we had played all potential good clubs in the league and lost then fair enough but we haven't.. Had played some winnable games.

Let's pretend your are a bookie and have AFC down as a club who will finish 19th /20th this season (my prediction in the closed season.......forget play-offs!). What odds would you have given so far

Luton, Crawley, York.........no chance
Darlo & Mansfield at home.............likely to lose, may scrape a draw
Southport away........likely draw
Kiddie.........likely a draw
Gateshead......home win would edge it

At best then 4 points

Total rubbish

Wake up and smell the coffee

Which of the points is total rubbish; being surprised we lost to Gateshead, the poor home support or the over optimism last season.

Make yourself known at the next home game and I will buy you a coffee and we can smell it together.

I want to apologise for calling you an idiot, It was totally out of order as I know your not an idiot.

I didnt particularly agree with your post but this is no excuse. I can only say it was because of my desperation and frustration at are current plight.

If you go into a match with that kind of mindset - you will lose the games. After 8 games, you would have us on 2 points. So, not really good enough for the start of season. Yeah, the league is tough. Its hardly new news, weve known that for the last five years. Weve got a squad, i think, capable of doing 100% better than they are now. Ultimately, its down to the manager to inspire the lads. Something, that is hardly going to happen when he sulks throughout a match.

I am not saying the players should go into any game thinking they will lose...you are quite correct, there is no place for that and any footballer that approaches the game that way should be left at home.

I am trying to stay optimistic and want to highlight that in my opinion our disasterous start, is in part, due to playing some pretty tough fixtures - fixtures the pundits and bookies would have given us little chance in anyway. If we had already played, Hayes, Bath, Histon etc at home then I would be devastated with our start - as it is, I'm just pi$$ed off!
