The Wall
« on: August 22, 2010, 05:02:52 PM »

Just seen the picture of the wall prior to the goal being scored yesterday. Whilst it was an excellent shot was the wall not in the wrong place? The post was not covered and Stu is nowhere in sight.

Pretty poor set up if you ask me. lessons to be learnt etc

I thought similar when I saw the photo too. Either the wall moved or was badly placed.

I was told that the ball was just hit straight, and this shows it was.

Whilst it galls me to say it we set the wall up incorrectly. That definately cost us a point. We normally set the wall up well. I bet there free kick taker couldnt believe his luck! Argh  :-[

Can I ask you all to look at the wall again pls.

1) Look at how many people are placed in the wall.

2) Look at how many people wide the wall as the ball passed it.

3) I think we need Warren Peyton there to build a stronger wall next time.

HOWEVER LETS GIVE CREDIT FOR THE FREE KICK - IT WAS IN MY BOOK PRETTY UNSTOPPABLE AND WE NEED TO STOP FINDING EXCUSES FOR THINGS AND BLAMING PLAYERS - SORRY CAPS LOL AND I COULD NOT BE BOTHERED RETYPING IT SO CARRIED ON WITH ALL THIS CLAP TRAP LOL.

I gave credit for the strike, however hen it passed the wall it was about 3 feet. It hit the net at about 6 feet. All blockable. There is general blame there and I am sure GH and Co will be discussing it. I am only making an observation.

It is the job of the goalkeeper to set up the wall. Maybe Stuart set it up to cover one side of his goal thinking he'd be able to cover the other without banking on the guy hitting it quite so well.

Joe, if you are correct and the wall was covering the other post then Stu should have been in view? The shot although poerful was at a stoppable height especially as it was a dead ball kick. afterall the player has struck it into the clear space where you would expect surely.

I was stood on Chequers and must say it was a strange and cracking shot. It didn't move at all and flew straight past the wall and in. Strange because it was slightly to the left of goal as you look at the goal but he hit it with his right foot. I would say maybe Coburn thought right footer as he lined up it would be coming round the other side of the wall, that said I wouldn't understand the economics of wall setting up...

With the new light balls, ect. goalkeepers don't particularly trust the wall to always block a shot which is on target, as dip/curl often makes them useless.
