That was Ross Joyce levels of ineptitude from the ref, so he'll be in the league next year no doubt.

The move on Isaac after the first goal would be a citation in Rugby, the lad stepped over and dropped the shoulder on him. Assault.

The defence was immense tonight, Lewis Baines is the best central defender we've ever seen at the club. He's put more incredible blocks in this season than I can even begin to list. Tonight's full-faced block was up there with the best.

Dorking have clearly realised they need to be a bit nasty to get results when you are at the wrong end of the table. I don't particularly begrudge them that, but the ref had no idea how to deal with it. It ruined the game as he lost more and more control.

Win in the bag though and one that will hopefully bring the lads together.

if Ethan is not fit i would play Ollie Byrne in goal
His old man, posted a picture on Twitter of a car losing its wheel, with the caption "The wheels are falling off" just after his son had been named on the bench in the game we lost.

After the sh*te I would be fining him his wages and sending him down to the donkey field to train with the under 9's. Our social media policy must surely include close family & "representatives".

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Loans needed
« on: March 05, 2024, 02:12:36 PM »
I saw a post somewhere on the Facebook group about Justin Donawa going out to Chorley to 'balance the books' - where did that come from?

If it's true, I must say it makes me more relaxed about some of the recent decision making, as NOTHING should put our balance sheet at risk.

Could it also have contributed to Parky's slightly strained words around the support base a few weeks ago?

We've seen how it goes for clubs around us that push beyond their means, and it's very evident that we've been very ambitious already this season with recruitment.

As a bit of guide, we had players reject deals with other established National League clubs to come here - and then there was Crankshaw, Mooney etc -who won't have come cheap.

Maybe it's just about seeing the season out now, and seeing whereabouts we land.

Parky mentioned balancing the books on his pastries interview yesterday. Also said he should be back in a few weeks. But also mentioned they are looking at maybe a loan or too coming in if right person was available. So not sure how we fund that..

Smoke and Mirrors comes to mind.
I don't think we need to panic about the health of our balance sheet (which without some poor accounting should still be 1.5m in the green at least), we just need to be balancing the budget side of the books at the most.

We do have a very expensive bench of inactive players right now though. None of Amaluzor, Jones,Byrne, Ross & least of all Crankshaw are on low salaries. We've not given Dan Mooney 10p and a bus ticket for wages either, or Newby, who took a cut but still can't be cheap.

That was old school Alty. Scared for the full 45 of conceding.

Where is the rest of our squad? Are we that crocked we don't have 5 benchwarmers?

Where is the utd kid?

Where is the formation that wins us matches and scares the opposition?

Fair play to those that traveled to witness that first half. Much better is needed now.

The positive is the result barely dented our playoff chances.

The negative is that performance (& the last 2) have severely dented our playoff chances.

Some context re. tomorrow's visitors, courtesy of the splendid John Laidlar:

"It's now four defeats on the spin in the league for Alan Devonshire's men, who briefly rekindled hopes of a play-off charge earlier this month... Since then, missed chances and misfortune have afflicted the team at a crucial juncture of the season, with the side losing a game they should have handsomely won at Boreham Wood before going down to a 2-1 defeat in the 98th minute at FC Halifax Town last week.

Saturday's 3-1 loss to Oldham Athletic and last night's 2-1 loss to Southend United were much more disappointing performances and few could argue they deserved anything from either contest.

United briefly came to life towards the end of the first half, when Kevin Lokko rose well to head home Sam Barratt's free kick to make it 1-1, but generally, they were second best to a Shrimpers side who started the night four points below them in the National League table....

Devonshire's men hav[e] failed to score more than one goal in all but one of their last 12 matches, now 13. It means that whenever they fall behind, there's a general unease about whether they have the firepower to get back into a game."
0-4 to them it is then

I usually like your witticisms AA but don't even think that! 😉
🤣

Ollie,
is better than matt

You’ve got to be joking here right?

Ollie Byrne isn’t quite Andy Dawber bad but he’s not far off. I’d play an outfield player in goal if Ross and Gould were both injured
This is all a bit too far, for me he is better than Gould just on the basis he's similar skill level, but larger human.

I'd still not play him when his bottom lip might trip him up at any moment.

That was too much rotation

Our starting 10 outfield players are a way in front of the bench and squad players
James Jones CB
Justin Donowa RB
Mooney RW

All as good I think as the starting option.

Wilson CM
Roscoe CB
Angus CF

All better than some previous recent starters for the club.

I think this year we have some depth that is Conference starting standard. A rarity in all our years in this league to be honest. Our performances are a mix of skill, atmosphere, and attitude. I think this goes deeper than our starting lineup. I wouldn't be against starting 9/11 first-teamers each game in the name of rotation.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Crowds
« on: February 17, 2024, 12:22:23 PM »
Are we all delusional?? What crowds have we got over the past 10 years or beyond?Every club has an ultimate crowd potential. Why have we not got more crowds over the years? I fear we are being bamboozled. If we do not get promoted how many will we get next season? Not 2500 for sure even week..Mark my words. Nice ambition but  not realistic
Plenty will come back next year if we don't get promoted because they will be coming because of the product and the continued optimism they have experienced this year. Only a catastrophic drop in form will see the crowds drop hugely.

The increase in fans is not an Altrincham exclusive thing. The growth of lower league football crowds is all over the pyramid; however, if you want to keep the floating fans longer term, they will want a few things we just don't offer with current facilities, and that will be why they don't come week in and week out.

Also, if you think the club isn't doing new things to gain awareness than they were doing 10 years ago you are missing a beat. Radio Alty, Alty TV, Altrincham Today, Great Social Media Presence, and High Street store are all essentially worlds away from the 1990s club site and black and white match photos outside the ground we had before then.

If all the "best community club" doesn't sound like a facility for the community around a new ground I don't know how they could stake that claim. We already have a huge junior network in the town and a facility for community use on site.

Great to see some more noise about this, I understand the more understated this whole thing is the better it probably is in terms of the negative side of big money people. I just wish I had a bit more to boast about I guess.

If the town isn't capable of drawing 3.5k crowds with it's catchment area I'd be surprised honestly.

We're only just now really managing to raise town center awareness and better facilities would certainly draw in those expecting a more premier league feel to ameneties etc.

2.5k I think is realistic while the product is as good as it is and the ground is what it is. The advantages of bigger crowds are obviously more money in the bank for Alex Newby types when we already have Olly Crankshaw on the books out of action.
