FYI my above comment was supposed to be tongue in cheek. He might be injured or something, I've got no idea.

Arnold not in the squad tonight...

Thought he would at least made the bench

Given that he's a player who everyone got excited about, he is destined to leave almost immediately having been completely underwhelming. So it is written in the ancient tomes that govern the laws of Alty.

Wasn't there today, but surely Arnold deserves a bit more of a chance before being written off? I remember thinking Hulme was absolutely garbage a couple of weeks into the Evo Stik season (I wasn't the only one) and look how wrong I was there.

TBF they probably have a better setup to bring him on. We usually require players that are almost ready or maturing such as Mullarkey. There are a dirth of players that have been treated like this, such as Taylor to name but one.

Lawrence Taylor got plenty of game time but suffered primarily from being the most overrated player in the history of football. I don't know if it was because of the state of the club at the time, but he did a bit of good passing and everyone lost their minds. Saw him playing in the 10th tier for Cheadle Town last season and he didn't particularly stand out. Some potential, but all that stuff about him being first name on the team sheet and the next Duncan Watmore etc was absolutely bizarre.
.

So true, it was beyond bizarre. He was nothing more than average (which was obviously amazing compared to everyone else at the time).

It was like being in the Twilight Zone! People saying he was better than Richman and Moult and was the future of the club. Thank god we're in better days now

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Fylde : Match Thread
« on: July 26, 2019, 07:28:40 PM »
If anyone's interested in the whereabouts of the amazing "lost 6-0 to Fylde squad"...

1. Callum PRESTON - Last seen at Aberystwyth Town, left the Welsh club after making one cup appearance.
2. Sam PATTERSON - Never played again after departing from Alty.
3. David LYNCH - Now at Alfreton following spells with Halifax and Southport.
4. John CYRUS - Last seen at Frickley Athletic, current whereabouts unknown.
5. Simon RICHMAN - Still with us.
6. Alan GOODALL (capt) Playing in the Welsh Premier League with Aberystwyth.
7. James LAWRIE - At Nantwich Town
8. Jake MOULT - Still with us.
9. Danny HATTERSLEY - Spent time living in Australia and doesn't appear to be involved in the game.
10. Damian REEVES - Recently signed for Ossett United following spells with Shaw Lane and Gainsborough.
11. Simon GARNER - Retired

Subs:

12. Jamie MENAGH - Spent last season in the North West Counties with Runcorn Town.
14. Sean MILLER - Recently signed a new deal with Curzon Ashton.
15. Charlie JOYCE - Another who hung up his boots at an early age after leaving Alty.
16. Sam HEATHCOTE - Now with Widnes
20. Andrew DAWBER - Last seen in the North West Counties with Charnock Richard in 2017.

I know it's a less than illustrious line up, but to think the likes of Patterson, Joyce, Dawber etc decided to retire in their early/mid twenties shortly after is pretty strange. I know they weren't good enough for Alty, but they'd all been on the books of some big clubs and tipped for great things. I wonder if they were all just wildly overrated or if we ruined football for them?

Connah's Quay Nomads have just beaten Kilmarnock 3-2 on aggregate. Their squad includes John Disney who played a couple of games for us in the Evo Stik as well as several members of Neil Young's all conquering Chester side. Mind boggling.

A minor point of interest: Atherton's former Preston North End and St Johnstone defender Clive Smith is Timperley based.

How annoyed would you be if you were Holywell Town? They still have no idea what league they'll be in next season!

The new fans' club, Bangor 1876, are competing in the fifth tier Gwynedd League this season, and will be based at Treborth Playing Fields, which looks to be by the Menai Strait, a bit further out from the centre than Nantporth, where City play.

Fair play to them. With this news does this mean the allocations for the new third tier have now been announced?

Don't think so...Bangor are facing yet another points deduction and so could still potentially be relegated. Madness!

I assume we will have signed him permanently. Note he's come to us from Stockport Town in the 10th tier as opposed to Stockport County

I assume Stockport Town are one of the many reincarnations of Woodley Sports?

Pretty much. They did exist for a season before Stockport Sports (formerly Woodley) went out of existence, but they now play at the Sports Village so have taken their place to all intents and purposes.
