Altrincham FC First Team / Looking Good!
« on: July 09, 2011, 05:33:11 PM »
Well it's difficult to judge when there's such a gulf in class but I was quite impressed from what I saw. Chadwick looks as if he could be an excellent partner for Reeves, skilled but also gives us a bit more strength up front, something we lacked last season. Richman and the new defenders looked decent, as did the striker from Wrexham (Gall?). Special mention too for Ryan Brown, was expecting him to be torn apart today but felt he gave a good account of himself...

Well anyway, it looks like we have the potential to do really well this season. Can't wait to watch the team again next week and see what they can do.

Well done to all the team today.

Altrincham FC First Team / The No Account Old Boys Thread
« on: June 28, 2011, 10:30:10 AM »
IT's the thread for all the "never weres" in Alty history...

Jimmy Mccarthy appears to have signed for Leek Town,as have Danny Holmes and Darren Tinson. Frightening.

People are entitled to their opinions but I would think that as fans of our club we would at least be able to have a fresh start and go in to the season with a few simple guidelines...

1) Allow players to kick a ball before judging them
2) not make unreasonable demands of our manager (who has already signed 5 players, and made plans for pre season)
3) have at least a little bit of optimism (not saying we will storm the league...but we are fans we should at least have some bloody belief)
4) have some appreciation for how our club is run.

I make the last point because looking round other clubs' forums and websites a lot of clubs don't tell their fans anything, RE staff, players etc.

Some of the posts are simply beyond belief recently. We are going in to this season for a fresh start, this could be a new beginning for the proud club Altrincham FC, let's get some pride and some bloody sense back in to this club and its fanbase and not all act like Dennis Birch ffs. If you want to be pessimistic about this team let's at least wait to see how the team looks in PSFs

Come on you Robins

Altrincham FC First Team / Trivia Question on the Website
« on: June 05, 2011, 10:44:33 PM »
Above, is Alty's squad warming up before their first pre-season friendly ten years ago in July 2001 against Tranmere Rovers. Two Alty players in our squad for 2011-12 were involved in the pre-season for the Robins ten years ago, though neither is actually pictured here; one was Stuart Coburn, who was the other?

It's an easy one, first person to get it right wins a free hug off Steve Evans.

Altrincham FC First Team / Hayes & Yeading

interesting goings on down south...having organized a groundshare with Woking, a 50 mile round trip from their current ground, half their fanbase is saying they'll no longer be attending. They've apparently had a 60% budget cut (hardly suprising) and word on the grapevine is their manager Garry "Full time is cheaper than part time" Haylock has just walked out basically saying there's not chance of them staying up! How they even stayed up for 2 seasons is beyond me but it seems to me like they will get destroyed next season.

Altrincham FC First Team / Time for a 6th national League?
« on: May 03, 2011, 01:22:16 PM »
I've been thinking recently about the way the conference has changed from how it was in the 80s when us and Weymouth were the top dogs, to how it is now, being dominated by full time teams.

I reckon it's time for the conference to become "Leauge 3" and for there to be another, majority semi-pro national league below it like the old APL. I think the best semi-pro teams should be given the opportunity to play in a good quality national league. Witht he way the league has developed I think there needs to be another league and it also keeps the true non league spirit alive.

Thoughts?
