Non Altrincham FC Talk / Help Me Out While I'm Unemployed?
« on: May 04, 2020, 11:24:50 AM »
Hi folks,

Covid has lost me my job as a football writer. I'm using some of my free time to work on this YT channel. I know it won't be up many people's street but if you can give any of my videos a click, like or comment it would be massively helpful!

Watmore may have left the club, but not entirely. His transfer funded the construction of the Duncan Watmore Memorial Sports Hall which was built in 2015.

Phil Parkinson 20/1 with Paddy Power...

I assume it's our PP, not the former Bolton manager.

Connah's Quay Nomads have just beaten Kilmarnock 3-2 on aggregate. Their squad includes John Disney who played a couple of games for us in the Evo Stik as well as several members of Neil Young's all conquering Chester side. Mind boggling.

Has come out of retirement and is playing in the Welsh Prem for Aberystwyth tonight. They appear to be deploying him at centre back so obviously not interested in clean sheets!

They've also got Wes Baynes at right back!

Thought this was interesting. I remember him playing a CSC game and a friendly against Widnes under Neil Young.

Altrincham FC First Team / Last Season's Squad - Where are They Now?
« on: February 14, 2018, 09:37:23 PM »
As of December 2020.

Goalkeepers

Andy Dawber – After being released midway through last season, Andy pitched up at Crewe Alex where he acted as cover. He left Crewe at the end of the season and went on to sign for Charnock Richard in the North West Counties League. He played a handful of games for them then seemed to give up on football.

Callum Preston – Played one game for Alty, the 6-0 defeat to AFC Fylde before being released. Much like Dawber, Preston was given a chance to join a football league club (Stevenage) before being released at the end of the season. Preston did appear to land on his feet somewhat as he joined Wrexham and made a single appearance. Then played for Aber in Wales and Skem in the North West Counties and is training as a sports journalist.

Stuart Tomlinson – Matt Doughty stated that Tomlinson would be leaving the club to pursue opportunities at a higher level. But Tomlinson never played again.

Defenders

Callum Charlton – For reasons that were never properly explained, Callum was never registered and so did not feature in a single match day squad. After leaving Alty he signed for Ossett Albion and was called up to play for the “Yorkshire International Team”. Now plays for Emley in the North West Counties.

John Cyrus – Played fairly consistently throughout last the relegation season before returning to Frickley. Now at Pontefract Collieries.

Harry Cain – Was impressive in pre season and managed a goal in the FA Trophy game vs Macclesfield. Signed for Prescot Cables but has recently been out through injury.

Jon Moran – The loanee centre back from FGR was unceremoniously dropped by Jim Harvey in place of Danny Hattersley. Now at Stafford Rangers.

Wayne Thomas – The veteran centre back had a short loan spell from Kidderminster Harriers. Was appointed manager of Rushall Olympic but was sacked after their defeat against us this season. He returned as a player for Worcester City earlier this season and was sent off on his debut.

Adam Sumner – Signed for Lancaster City after leaving Alty and has recently joined Ramsbottom on loan.

Luis Morrison Derbyshire – Had a brief spell under Jim Harvey before departing for Alfreton Town.

Clayton Mcdonald – Signed for Nantwich on leaving Alty, now appears to be operating as a centre forward.

Danny Hall – After an underwhelming first stint at the club he returned for an equally uninspiring second spell. Joined Stalybridge after leaving Alty before departing for Droylesden. Now plying his trade at Mossley.

Simon Garner – Neil Young’s intrepid player coach. Memorably torn to pieces playing as a wing back against AFC Fylde before leaving with the rest of the Young management team. He played for Trafford a while last season before retiring from playing.

Josh Doherty – Signed for Alty on loan from Leyton Orient and impressed during his brief time at the club.  After being released by Orient, he returned to Northern Ireland where he turned out for Ards. Now back in the football league playing first team football for Crawley Town.

Sam Patterson – Sam has not joined another club since leaving Alty at the end of last season. Quite the decline for a 24 year old who had recently been in the football league.

Kyle Brownhill – Signed from Hyde on the recommendation of Graham Heathcote, Kyle appeared to be a decent acquisition and was even signed on as cover by Phil Parkinson. However, he departed for Ramsbottom in pre season and has subsequently joined Hyde.

Sam Heathcote – Yet another player to leave Alty for Ramsbottom, Sam has subsequently been deployed mostly as a centre forward since taking the step down. Scored against us in the FA Trophy earlier this season.

Chris Lynch – Remained with Alty throughout pre season and even managed a substitute appearance early in the season before signing for Atherton Collieries.

Andy Mcwilliams – Now playing for Buxton.

Midfielders

Charlie Joyce – An early Neil Young signing, Joyce had been slated for league football during his time at Southport but made only 6 appearances for Alty before being released midway through last season and is yet to join a new club.

David Lynch – After leaving Alty early last season, Lynch joined Halifax and gave a scathing interview about the dressing room culture at Altrincham. Earlier this season he was purchased by Southport for a nominal fee.

Billy Hasler-Cregg – Made only a handful of appearances for Alty but returned to Moss Lane for a brief trial spell this summer. Turned out for Glossop North End this season before joining Congleton Town where he has recently signed a contract.

Curtis Obeng – Signed for Alty under Jim Harvey and played several games before taking the step up to Solihull Moors in the Conference Premier. However, over the summer period he announced he would be retiring aged only 29.

Simon Lenighan - The master criminal failed to make an impact at Alty and now plays for Radcliffe FC.

Nicky Clee – Despite signing a contract to the end of the 2017/18 season, he departed for Bradford Park Avenue in close season.

Jamie Menagh – Made a single substitute appearance under Neil Young before departing to play for Airbus UK. Later played for Marine but now seems to have dropped out of football.

Alan Goodall – Enjoyed brief spells as both manager and captain last season but probably looked most out of place playing as a centre back under Jim Harvey. Announced his retirement at the end of last season.

Elliot Newby – Probably one of the best players to turn out for Alty last season. Despite the club’s best efforts to keep him after his loan spell, he understandably decided to sign for AFC Telford instead.

Gary Jones – No longer playing, presumably retired.

Greg Wilkinson – After rejoining Alty under Jim Harvey, he signed for Stalybridge Celtic.

Fabio Bassangue – No introduction needed for this legend. Unfortunately he appears to have vanished off the face of the earth after tearing it up at Moss Lane last season.

Forwards

Andy Owens – Andy joined Alty from Stalybridge last season and scored on his debut against FCUM. However, he failed to maintain form and was ultimately released, joining Skelmersdale. Recently he signed for Connah’s Quay, one of the more successful teams in the Welsh Premier. He could be playing in the Europa League come the summer!

Tomi Adeloye – Probably one of the surprise success stories from this list...Tomi joined Alty on the recommendation of then Chester manager John Mccarthy under Matt Doughty after a positive trial at Chester. However, he was released shortly after making his debut with Doughty stating “I just wanted a bit more from him effort wise.”
This season, Adeloye took the step up to the Conference Premier with Hartlepool. He made 12 appearances before leaving the club as his temporary deal could not be renewed under the terms of Hartlepool’s transfer embargo.

Danny Hattersley – Left for Warrington Town but has now left the country for Australia and is no longer playing.

Khuis Metz – Metz, a loanee from Burnley, made a single appearance for Alty playing 45 minutes under Neil Young at Halifax before returning to his parent club where he remains.

Emile Sinclair – Scored against Curzon Ashton barely a minute in his debut but failed to maintain consistency. Has played for four different clubs since leaving Alty: BPA, Scarborough, Ossett Town and Goole.

Nyal Bell – Had a brief, disappointing spell on loan under Neil Young before returning to his parent club Gateshead where he remains, having also had a loan spell at Chester.

Craig Hobson – Now playing in the Welsh Premier League for Aberystwyth where he seems to be scoring a fair few.

Micah Evans – Left Alty and signed for Witton Albion.

Phil Marsh – Signed for Runcorn Town after leaving Alty and is now playing for Rhyl FC in the second tier.

James Lawrie – Finally left Alty after many years of erratic performances and signed for Hednesford Town.

Damian Reeves – As we all know, now playing for Shaw Lane.

There’s an interesting mix there with a handful of players going on to better things and plenty pitching up in the depths of non league. What strikes me though is the amount of players who simply retired after last season, some of them supposedly in the prime of their careers and having played league football in the past. Whether the mess at our club killed their careers or their lack of desire contributed to our demise I can’t say.

According to the main site. I say we give him a chance to impress us again. He didn't play all that much for us and we know he has ability. Perhaps Parky can get the best out of him?

Congratulations are due to the reserve team who attained promotion with a good 4-0 win over Middlewich Town at Moss Lane today in front of a good crowd.

They will now play in the Cheshire League Premier division at tier 11 of the football pyramid, 1 level below the North West Counties League.
