Altrincham FC First Team / 201819 Away Games Map
« on: July 31, 2018, 02:21:29 PM »
I was curious how far the kids will make me drive this season, so I messed about and plotted the league away games on a google map - I've shared it if anyone wants to take a look.

How are the players getting there - are they on the Ferry out of Liverpool or flying earlier ?

If anyone needs Car Parking in Liverpool for the ferry,

I've just booked at https://uk.secure-a-spot.com/home/carparksearch  in Capital Parking Liverpool - I used to have contract parking there when I worked in the centre for a while so I'm happy its as secure as it could be.

Only cost £5.45 for the whole weekend, but note you need to book sat and sun as 2 full days 0:15 - 23:45, using add day, and then give them a call to merge the booking together as you won't be exiting and reentering sat/sun.

Its pretty close to the ferry terminals.

Hope that helps someone.

A few points:

1) I looked at it from the point of view of a new potential supporter or visitor. Can they find the basic information they need quickly i.e. through one obvious link/click:
- when are the matches?
- how much is it?
- where is it?
- how do I get there?
- what are the facilities?

I agree with this - when I've looked at other away websites - I get frustrated trying to find what I want to know, occasionally on a mobile device.  It would be good to have a very obvious "Visiting Fan" link very prominent with a 1 page with everything you suggest.

Will we be on board for the full duration of the final, though? Can't think of anything worse than getting off in Liverpool and having to rush to find somewhere.

Try Twitter  ;D

It looks fairly consistent at 2h 45mins,

So depart 3pm, kick off 4pm, arrive 5:45 when I guess its pretty much the end of normal time?

The return sailing is 7pm so I dont suppose they hang around !

I've emailed to check and had the following back :-

"Thank you for your email,

They do have TV’s on board and as far as we are aware they will be showing the football in the bar area. This will be subject to the aerial signal during the crossing.

Melanie Jones – Passenger Services Supervisior"

I'll echo the thanks for such a great informative site.

I'll like to add specific thanks and praise for the maintenance of the historic archives of news and information - I had a look through a lot of it over xmas this year and its really good to be able to look back so far - I hope its preserved in some form for the future?

.....Mr Rowley got his sizeable chunk of shares for nothing (unless someone can show me his investment in the books) so I will ask him, what he and the board asked STAR....why do you neeed more than one share Mr Rowley?

I'm curious - given all the shares were in issue at the time (circa 2002) - which books would this transaction appear in.  The normal share transaction would be person A sells their shareholding to person B, for whatever price both parties agree on, nothing to do with Altrincham FC books at all ?

I'd also challenge the "sizeable chunk" - as at the last return GR having 5% of Altrincham FC ?

Is the route through Glossop and the Woodhead Pass A628 the generally favoured route ?

I would put Moult there and then have Richman and Harrop in centre mid. I love Harrop's passion but would tell him to chill a bit.

I had to turn and look away when I saw Max charging towards their player that got him the yellow card - it was like a slow motion train crash coming !

Whats the best driving route to Stourbridge - I'm looking at the map and wondering about avoiding the M5 and its traffic problems and coming off at M6 Jct 10, through Wolverhampton and down the A491.

Has anyone experience of that road enough to tell me not to try it ?

I just did a bit of googling, I'm still not clear what happened with the points but Spennymoor united were unable to fulfill fixtures in 2004/5 in the evostick leagues.

"The 2004-05 campaign proved to be a disaster for the club and the league. Spennymoor hit severe financial difficulties, failing to fulfil their final nine fixtures and being deducted twelve points. The league committee caused turmoil by awarding the points to the opponents in the unfulfilled matches, leading to protests, appeals and a different end to the promotion and play off places.

Spennymoor United folded in the close season of 2005."

I guess if they cant fulfill all their fixtures the league either hands the win to the unfulfilled teams or voids all the games through the season.

I get bad weather etc etc but after tomorrow is seemingly inevitably postponed then Shaw Lane have a quarter of their remaining home fixtures to fit in, in the last 20 days of the scheduled season which is plainly ridiculous by any standards. How the League have not stepped in and ordered them to find an alternative venue by now is baffling.

Are Shaw Lane playing stupid games - 99.99% saying its off last night and now apparently working hard to get the game on ?

Me and my 3 boys decided against planning to go tonight given it had 0.01% chance of happening - are they trying to reduce our away support?

Now it sounds more 50/50?

I walked the golf course this morning and there is more standing water on there at present than I've seen this season so far - and my wellies have a split :-(
