Altrincham FC First Team / Re: When are the fixtures revealed?

I wish they'd hurry up as my fixture mug is generating a lot of concerns and needs renewing :-

once your new ones arrive are you going to cremate it or keep it as a happy memory of last season?

I've not decided fully - but I might clean it up in the dishwasher (multiple cycles) and then put it in the guest mug cupboard at work in Stockport !

. I think Rowley has f**ked us over on this share thing (no new investors from what I hear, and now he has more control - whole thing was fabricated - FFS).

To put that statement right - GR doesnt have those shares - they are now owned within "Treasury" by the club itself, with power bestowed upon the directors (elected by the owners of the club) to sell them as and when they see the right opportunity.

He currently has the same control he had before, if these shares are then issued, and not to him, then he has less control.

Did you see Fyldes perimeter fencing - it was just a removable frame about 50cm high with slot in advertising boards - I wasnt sure if that was their permanent solution for flexibility or a temporary.

On the one hand it gave a more open aspect to the pitch, but in our case would give you nothing to lean on around the perimeter - but would enforce people being "in the stand" rather than on the pavement so to speak.

Lets hope they're all not knackered and out injured before we even start the season :-)

There are only 232,000 shares in Alty at present - coincidentally 117,000 of them are "non Voting" shares held by John King.

Hence this sounds like buying (?) these back off John King and an EGM to both approve that and to convert them to voting shares.

The other 115,000 shares held by a mixture of people then control less than 50% of the club.

I wasn't around in John King's era, but from what I've heard of him I assume he has the best of intentions towards the club?

It doesnt matter when we appoint someone, I'd rather wait for the right person than rush to appoint the wrong one again.

Surely time is of the essence though in getting a manager sorted out - otherwise anyone in the team who is undecided may go elsewhere - maybe not a bad thing in some cases !  And the longer its delayed the less the opportunities for getting people in from other teams - and then having a decent pre season to get people fit and gelled as a team?

Phew, a bit of good news, I feared the worst for a moment but at least the ground is secure.

I dont know the details - but I'd assume its secure whilst we have Altrincham FC playing there - if that ceased then surely the council would take it back and then decide what to do with it !

U9 and U10 are now full with a wait list in operation for any interested parties in case of cancellation.

U11 still has a number of spaces left.

assuming the £5 a share that they were sold at for CSH fundraising

Big assumption. That was when we were in the conference. Times have changed and so has the worth of the shares. Mind you in these circumstances my wife always hangs on to them until their value returns.  ::)
It has to be a big assumption - there is no open market price for Alty Shares - hence why I said each shareholder is free to name their price - it could be 10p a share - it could be £1000 a share.

In a normal business valuation would be easier - but its a football club !!

I find this area quite interesting - particularly the added dimension that supporters play.

Shareholders own the club but pretty much get 1 opportunity a year to influence the running of the club at the AGM each year - where they elect directors to run the club on their behalf.  If you want full control of this process you'd need influence over 51% of the voting shares - so 57,500 shares.  The top 5 shareholders between them have just over this amount and so working together have full control. (Geoff G,Grahame, Andrew Shaw, L Rosenfield, I Foden  - all as at the last return so movement since could have changed that).

Having a shareholding below 50% infers no automatic right to a seat on the board.

Assuming all 5 shareholders were willing to sell - they'd be free to name their price, but assuming the £5 a share that they were sold at for CSH fundraising you'd need £287k to get majority ownership and full control.

Directors (including the chairman) are then given office for a period of time to run the club.

I'd assume at club board meetings that decisions are made under a voting system, I assume each director has 1 vote, including the chairman (possibly having an additional casting vote if needed for a draw on a decision) - therefore decisions are made on a majority agreement basis.

Hence :-

If somebody were moderately well off, rather than skint like me, they could buy Geoff Goodwin out and become our new major shareholder.....then things just might change.
  -  That would only give you 13% of the shares - so a bigger vote at the AGM but not enough to change things alone !

In theory if somebody did have a couple of thousand pounds they could wrest control.......we will have to have a bucket collection at the Alfreton match....ha ha!
  - That would have to be a pretty big bucket - but would need a lot more than a couple of thousand to wrest control !

supporters that have the right profile........fair minded, willing to listen as well as contribute, mature etc ...... all a long shot but at least a possible way forward

That sounds like Mark Ecky to me ?

I think point 2 is a bit clouded with recent events.

Grahame was elevated to the chairman in 2010, at the same time Heathcote stood down, we were already heading south at that point and Ken McKenna narrowly missed keeping Alty in the Conf premier.  Lee Sinnot was then brought in with a finish in the conf north or 8th, 4th, 3rd and promotion to the National. As the review presented, the clubs finances strengthened in this time and the playing budget increased.

I'd consider that a success for 5 years under the board as was with Grahame as Chairman ?

We struggle in the conf national, finishing 17th then 22nd and relegated following Sinnot leaving.

I'm pretty sure the decision to recruit Neil Young and give him the freedom he had was a "board" decision involving others and wasnt just the chairman.

From that point a lot of our current fate was sealed and its been firefighting ever since.

Sorry GHM, trying to get some reality in terms of what people are willing to pay. There are 23 league games I understand hence my calculations.
Being realistic, £10 on the gate seems sensible if not only for a seat and £9 standing, hence my pricing! Sub £200 season tickets might also be viable, over to the members of the board, any views Gents?
I'd like to see less of a differential, if at all, for OAP concession - we keep looking for rich benefactors to bankroll the club but I'd speculate our over 60's in this area are reasonably wealthy and I see little logic in them having a high discount, even as it stands now they get a 35% discount to watch the same game.
1. The club policy is that concessions apply over the age of 65, not 60.

I'm afraid sexual discrimination applies :-

"The concessionary ages are currently, for females 60 and over, for males 65 and over."
