Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Fan Zone Food
« on: September 01, 2023, 09:25:45 AM »
As an aside, my friend from church did express an interest in doing match day food (his Dutch cafe can be found on Goose Green) but nothing came of it. I got the impression that there were plans to rotate a food pod between various different people, so I would be interested to know if this is for the long term. The menu sounds pretty good (though personally I'm not a fan of soya).

Thanks Hugh - I know Sjord and we have spoken about opportunities.

The Beyond meat range is principaly made from Pea protein, from their promotional material "Our Beyond Burger is made of quality ingredients—like peas and brown rice—and a simple process to turn them into great-tasting meat. Like all of our products, the Beyond Burger is made with no GMOs, soy or gluten".

Menu shown below - we are selling the full range thats sold in the other kiosks in the ground, but also added some fan zone exclusive items of Nachos, Curry, Beyond Meat Chilli, Beyond Meat Vegan Burger with vegan cheese & Indian snacks with mango chutney.

We have suspended selling beer with food currently until we can have seperate dedicated taps to help, and the queue is generally small or empty for food in the last 2 games and so is a quick option if youre over that side of the ground to get any food, a soft drink, or a hot drink and chocolate bar.

We have limited chip frying capacity and are reserving this for selling as part of a meal, however if we have them spare we will of course sell chips only. Curry of the week so far has been Lamb Rogan Josh, and will be for this Saturdays game.

An example of the fully loaded Nachos here with Beyond Meat Chilli, melted cheese, salsa and Jalapenos.

I come on here every week and I don't recall any. I used to use Dawn's kiosk but gave up a couple of seasons ago. Funnily enough I don't miss it.

Footy scran is a twitter account - we've been covered numerous times on it.

e.g.

Dream on! With the club's requirement to maximise profit margin you'd be looking at a 20 for a £ banger from Costco or worse.

Really !  Strange how we had so many footy scran posts last year complimenting the value for money deals we had on food  ::)

Would it be possible to add bacon barms to our menus, or is this not possible cost wise or time wise?

Sorry Steve - very unlikely - a couple of us have a sausage barm at 10 ish on a Matchday whilst we’re setting up, and bacon barns are done for tournaments until 11am, but like McDonald’s- we change to lunch menu after 11. Stick to the burgers 🍔 😂

How about a nice bit if Scottish square sausage served in a burger bun?

Sounds nice, I might try that, before 11 though yeah !

Thanks Hugh - its really nice to come on here and find a positive comment related to the work we put in.

I checked the transactions before I saw this - and at the HT peak we were taking 3 card payments per minute which is some going in such a small facility.

It has also been tidied up outside of the entrance too, courtesy of Brian Birtles, and looks a lot more presentable in that zone now, and we have large signage on order to start advertising it - although that has the potential to make it popular and harder to get served :-)

We have rightly cricised other clubs for calling games off late and for what happened at Halifax on NYD, but we're clearly not much better, even more so when we are playing a team from some distance away. You would assume Bromley travelled up yesterday, but when you know their fans would be having an early start, surely you would have procedures in place to have an early inspection if required. Bit of a shambles.

TBF Halifax after stating earlier in the day that there would be no need for a pitch inspection then gave out zero information on their official channels for 5 hours & only confirmed it was on 40 minutes before KO & that KO was being put back by 15 minutes. I know it’s no defence for their 30 or so Bromley fans who will have come up today but the rain from about 9-10 round here this morning was spectacular so a 0900 pitch inspection wouldn’t have been much use anyway. This is the first time too tbf that I can think our relaid pitch has let us down. I feel for Bromley but don’t quite agree with all the FUME I’m seeing on the Twitter.

Thats a very fair assesment Sarf London - I was at the ground before 10 and concern had set in after the deluge - Kiosk catering waited until 11am where we had to make a go / no go decision on starting to prep and cook for the game, knowing there was a pitch inspection at 12:30, we optimistically went for on, but it wasnt to be :-(

I was inspecting the pitches on Long Hey this morning at about 9.15.
Damp but eminently playable.
Stood there watching puddles form then until just after 9.40 having taken refuge in the car.
Went back out 9.55 and it looked like a rice paddy.
Standing water also right across Thorley Lane

Thanks ATS - we made the decision for the junior club on Friday that it seemed ok for the weekend, but youre right, the amount that fell really quickly changed Longhey very quickly from assuming it was fine, to a no play situation. Hopefully Sunday will be playable - depending on what comes down overnight.

True - the declared matchday attendance is people who have paid to watch the game - regardless of whether they are there in person or not.

Just for the record what was on offer in the Fanzone?

Overpriced craft beer

£4 is very reasonable and matches what Libero used to charge.

Hi All - just to add for fact and clarity - the last price board in the fan zone from Libero, before closure, had the following prices

Flensburger £4.40
Factotum £4.60
Letter 23 Sour £4
Erdant 20  Att Moon £7.80
Hogans Cider £4.60

Current pricing in any local craft beer venues is more than that now.

Initial pricing for the reopen trial was £5 draught, £4 cans and bottles to keep it simple - more detailed pricing will evolve over time, but please bear in mind its a football stadium, San Miguel at the main bar is £4.80 and sells in big volume, and all profit made goes straight to running the football club and hopefully playing budget ultimately. A few early pints were sold at less due to teething problems with a faulty machine ! It was a soft launch.

Frankie will listen to any feedback and requests and is happy to source different product, but on balance it will have to appeal to the majority and individual requests may not be cost effective or popular. The one guarantee will be a choice, with up to 6 draught lines on offer supplemented with cans and bottles for lower volume options.

With reference to queue time, I did some calculations, if there are 150 people (assumed FZ capacity) who want serving within 10 minutes of half time whistle, to give 5 mins minimum to drink the pint - it would need a server to serve a pint every 4 seconds. Realistically, it must take 30 seconds to ask someone for their order, pour it, till it, pay for it.  That would need over 7 servers to achieve that which is unrealistic - please bear this in mind - we will work towards efficiency, prepay and prepour etc, but we will never manage perfection in an environment where so much trade happens within such a small window :-)

Stuart.

In the catering Kiosks we are regularly over 50% paying by card now - from a speed and efficiency angle I prefer cash - I can process a cash transaction much faster than a card payment and speed is important at half time when you have a queue. Interesting how many kids now present card payment, typically for small purchase such as £1 for a chocolate bar !

There are 3 huts to be fair, though I'm not sure that the old tea bar will be incorporated. We could do with some decent toilets there too.

There are 2 huts - fact. The old tea bar is outside of the fan zone and is a stewards control room.

He's only got 1 shed !  ;D ;D

Well, in that case I trust that the following composer has been booked to perform the music at the eventual grand opening of the Fan Zone?
