Altrincham FC First Team / Reserves
« on: January 25, 2007, 05:09:02 PM »
As Pete Hughes says, get down and support the reserves.
You can actually watch an Alty game without being nervous for the last 20 minutes.

For £2 it's better than the telly and free for season ticket holders, although it also compulsary that you buy something from Keith Davey's catering van.
PS Keith was 'off sick' last night and we all missed him. What a night to have no half time hot drink to warm the hands. Get well soon Keith.

Altrincham FC First Team / Quote from trouser press.
« on: January 23, 2007, 01:59:47 PM »
I won't spend too much time on the comment from Trouserpress because the statement made about the contribution of the Board and Management provides me with enough evidence to see that this person is either very naive, illformed or stupid (or all three).

Trouserpress, are the players / fans at the ground right now mowing the grass; stocking the bar, washing the kit, looking for a left back and finding new ways to pay the next electric bill ? No they are not; but you can bet that the management will be, fully supported by the Board, one of whom is walking to Northwich as I write to raise funds for the club and for a cancer charity.

"..........been on this forum since I moved up here"...............we would be interested to know which planet you moved here from !

You are entitled to your opinion, and I agree the Board and Management must listen to constructive critiscm from the fans, but on this occassion you are so wrong and owe them an apology.

Altrincham FC First Team / Chris Senior has just signed
« on: January 19, 2007, 01:51:53 PM »
I have just spoke with Chris Senior, who was leaving the ground. He seemed delighted to join and said he was really looking forward to playing for AFC. Great attitude I thought.

We are working outside the ground on a construction job and by pure coincidence it turns out that our foreman has known Chris since he was a child.
Seems that our foreman runs a junior club in Huddersfield and Chris played for them.
Funny how you find these things out. The foreman is also a drinking buddy of Mick Carmody.

Going away for half term - even delayed until the Sunday so that I don't miss the home game vs York.
Now the Vics game coincides with my week away, hence I need another postponement ! Well miffed.

Oh well there are positives, like not giving Connett £12

Could be worse, could have booked rail tickets look some of the southern based Alty fans have

Although I don't like him, I'm sticking up for Westley

You have to remember that these quotes are often collected straight after the final whistle and I would imagine it is very difficult to contain the anger after a performance like that. People say what they feel and it is not always wise or politically correct to do so.

He is effectively slagging his own players.
He is saying that his full time team on decent money; with no early morning starts, with plenty of rest, training time after breakfast rather than after work, all day access to physio etc, should beat a part time club. Maybe he is correct, otherwise why do we sing 'part time etc' when we beat a full time club.

The mistake he made of course is the reference to amateurs (but then again amateurs have won olympic golds and golf opens so amatuer does mean crap)

Any here's to beating another full time club away from home in the near future

Surely not that old black labrador that I once coaxed into the back of your car boot ??

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Ian Craney - Deal will be done today
« on: January 04, 2007, 01:08:06 PM »
The way I see it is, the money is not strictly the clubs anyway. If the club has both debts and cash, then that cash is morally the property the creditors.
In an ideal world, this is how businesses would operate. Firstly don't spend more than you earn and if you need to borrow, only borrow what you can comfortably pay back. If you cannot pay it back, be prepared to sell an asset to clear your debts.

Unfortunately the world is not ideal and people overspend and overborrow. How are some of the clubs in the Confrerence operating as they do on crowds of 1500 ?

Look upon the money as a bonus and don't expect Clayton Donaldson arriving in a taxi tomorrow. Leave it to the board, they have got thus far and should be trusted to do the right thing

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: 5 points over Xmas... Happy?
« on: January 02, 2007, 02:18:38 AM »
Truth is we could have been beaten by both FGR and Halifax.............I was at both games and felt for long periods of both games it was 'backs to walls' stuff.
Two draws in the above games are a testimony to the determination of the Alty players and their 'never say die attitude'.

If were a HT fan today I would be gutted, because they really should have won with their possession, attacks on goal and their full time footballers. If I were one of the six FGR supporters who could be bothered to attend Moss Lane at the weekend, I would feel just the same ie how did we leave there with only a point !

Therefore, whilst 7 points would have been nice, 5 must been seen as a mild succes - I have to admit that I predicted a loss to HT, a draw with Vics and a comprehensive victory over FGR

Altrincham FC First Team / Message for Chris - Halifax
« on: January 01, 2007, 10:24:09 AM »
Chris
Pick-up corner of Woodlands Parkway (traffic lights) at 12.15

Last went to the Shay in 1986 (think for a Zenith Data Cup game Vs Hereford with a friend) and think we had no cover.
What with the poor forecast, I may well adopt more suitable attire, similar to what the 6 FGR fans were wearing during the downpour yesterday

Altrincham FC First Team / Alty cinema
« on: December 21, 2006, 03:31:33 PM »
Not really for this forum, but it's a bit quiet...............so the cinema

They should have built a full size cinema instead of a half size version with two large restaurants and yet another block of council flats next door ! The foyer is not big enough and there aren't enough ticket aisles, therefore it takes too long to queue for a ticket, if your eyesight is good enough to be able to read what time the film starts.
Oh and it's much dearer than Parrs Wood and they don't do 'orange wdnesdays' (half price tickets)
Although I am sure it will be a success, it's a poor effort and could be so much better.

Ice rink is only temporary (so we are told). The 'real' one is gonna be built later ! I know a hockey fan who bought their season ticket on the strength of the rink opening in September. I have bet them they will not see a home game this season

Yours, glad that AFC is run by competent people

Altrincham FC First Team / Reply to the unemployed coalminer
« on: December 18, 2006, 05:14:49 PM »
I agree; your view is an unfashionable one, albeit I fully appreciate what you mean !

However where would you draw the line with this view............I put a lot of the 'success' of FC United (novelty aside, cheap version of Man Utd for youngs kids aside) down to the fact that they can 'compete' every game with their opposition ie hammer them cos they can afford better players.

Surely we want to compete at the highest level possible without going bust in the process. Derby's with Vics (and Macc) rather than 35 coming here from Droylsden and Hyde. We will be competing soon with a team that won the League Cup not long ago.

Your point is a good one though, because footy fans are normally fickle. The danger with just staying up each season (fantastic by the way -  heres hoping) is that the floating fans stop coming once a team is not seen to be winning every week

Altrincham FC First Team / Tropy attendances
« on: December 17, 2006, 09:25:55 PM »
Just had a look at the attendances on the BBC website.
No consolation, but some very dissappointing attendances at other Conf clubs :-

869 Dagenham
349 FGR
984 Kiddy
503 Vics
652 Southport
