Altrincham FC First Team / Re: ground safety work
« on: November 09, 2021, 10:29:56 PM »
As someone with 35 years experience in Building Control including Safety at Sports Grounds the only surprise to me is that it took this long. I can only suppose that Trafford MBC basically left us alone while crowds were relatively low but of course that has changed and there are some big games coming up. The Council will monitor the ground and carry out regular inspections including during live events.
The publicised increase in capacity last year however baffled me then and continues to do so, nothing about that seemed right and I would be surprised if the ground limit goes back up to that figure after the safety work is completed.

I must confess I did not like the ground much. Viewing was awful because of the running track. It was like watching ants running around busily at times rather than two football teams. I don't like football pitches where you are miles away from the action. Winsford United I think also springs to mind.

I also recollect the speedway track at The Shay when we lost 3-1 against Halifax Town in the FA Cup First Round back in November 1975.

Supporters of a certain vintage will probably also recall New Brighton's stadium, where the football pitch was surrounded by an athletics track.

Kirkby Town's former ground, Simonswood Lane (where a young John King honed his crunching tackles in the late 1960s/early 1970s), was another example:

What an incredibly desolate photo that is. Did anyone on here ever go there?

Thommo took part in the warm up and took a few corners/crosses for Gould to catch, can't be far off. (Takes a tidy corner btw!)
Gould did ok for me though yesterday, the outfield players are more of an urgency.

Good luck with the op Steve, and keep in touch with the lads on RR and here while you are laid up.

Great to be back, really enjoyed the game & what a player Pringle is. A few teething problems with ques etc and wobbly tech but just happy to be there.

The chap next to me said he'd got to the ground at 1pm and couldn't get in until two (his plan was to have lunch in the ground), was he doing something wrong or just to keen ?

Did he have a big cool box and a folding picnic table with him?

And here's the second goal (is it Pringle with the curious attempt at a defensive header which only succeeds in teeing up the goalscorer?):

Why was the bloke on the left allowed all that space to break forward. Terrible.

It's good to see that my original tounge in cheek teasing post is still teasing away

Does tounge rhyme with lounge?

Admin, any chance of another sub-forum for those who wish to read Hugh's increasingly tedious posts?

Perhaps Dr Hugh?

Don't forget the ham and pickle sandwiches Harold!!

Harold's retired now, it'll be  a few rich tea biscuits wrapped in clingfilm, a packet of Werthers and a home prepared flask of tea.

I went to Newcastle Poly, watched a game at West Allotment once, in those days they mimicked Newcastle and wore black and white, believe they have jumped on the green hoops bandwagon now. The team name is actually a district between Newcastle and South Shields/Tynemouth, near Shiremoor Metro.

I never watch football on TV, less likely if possible on the radio.
Live only for me.

I used to think the song was "oh Bandy Bandy, he signed for Alty fc in a pile of...."

I seem to remember his wife was quite involved with the club too. And one time he got injured going into a barrier - running through brick walls for the club and all that. I don't hold it against Robbie Savage either, Then again I didn't hold it against Stuart Terry. Well, not really. And speaking of which - Hulme's "disrespectful" comment about Peers (like he would be the only one) - oh come on. What about Brian's interview with Rod and Gary Scott a bit sgo. Chris Adams on the phone to Rod and he told Brian - "he was one of the poorer players to be fsir"! I don't think any worse of Rod for that. It's just banter!

Stay off the Red Bull mate.

The optimum outcome for us would surely be for Sutton United and Torquay United to be promoted.

Speak for yourself Cult...... Sutton is currently my nearest National League ground! Not that is a particularly special day out.

Another amazing "fact" that has absolutely nothing to do with this thread. What also amazes me is the "fact" that eminent expert epidemiologists are forced by Government cuts to take second jobs working in supermarkets.

Isn't there some sort of Covid chat forum this could take place on instead of here? More than tedious now.
