Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Team for tuesday?
« on: January 18, 2010, 11:39:03 AM »
Interesting to see that 3 of the afc wimbledon players who started yesterday, including the scorer of the first goal cannot play on tuesday

but I think they're all newcomers and the team which got them so high in the league will all be fit and ready to play (including Kedwell who was an unused sub on saturday and will no doubt have a point to prove!)

This would be a great game for us to win 1-0 after having about 29% possession wouldn't it?

Have to be the trophy - if the proviso was that we lose the play-off final - as having been to the old Wembley 3 times with Alty, the one we lost against Enfield in extra time depressed me for years!

Having said that, if we could only win one it would not be the trophy!

I too really fancy AFCW's chances of winning the play offs......if we can scrape past them then we could go all the way....make a change to going out meekly early doors to some rank no mark outsider at home.

No, that's in the next round after Workington beat Rushden!  ::) ;)

Are you still so sure??

Yep, CA, I'm still sure! The Vaughans have been making monkeys of everyone (including HMRC) for years now and it's going to continue!

Plus the fact that the Crewe fans will probably thank you for promoting their club - they're in the bottom tier of the FL now aren't they?

What about

Hartlepool
SC**thorpe
Darlington?

That would make 14!

Brian,

You've overdosed on the red wine again, I'm afraid...!

We've played (and defeated) Hartlepool at Moss Lane but have never played them on their ground.

As for Darlington, we played at their old ground, Feethams, on two occasions:
(i) 0-0 in the FA Cup in 1983;
(ii) a 2-0 defeat in the GM Vauxhall Conference back in February 1990.

They relocated to their present stadium in 2003.

Re. SC**thorpe United: I refer you to my previous posting...

I consider myself suitably admonisssssssshed! (hic)

Here goes for the 2nd time (how could I forget Blackpool and Sheff Utd?)

Goodison Park - Everton FA Cup
Saltergate - Gainsboro - Unibond Cup Final
Ewood Park - Blackburn FA Cup
Britannia Stadium - Conf Play Off
St Andrews - Birmingham FA Cup
Layer Road - Colchester Conf
Valley Parade - Bradford PA NPL
Edgar Street - Hereford Conf
Spotland - Rochdale FA Cup
Bloomfield Road - Blackpool FA Cup
Bramhall Lane - Sheff Utd FA Cup

I make that ELEVEN!

What about

Hartlepool
SC**thorpe
Darlington?

That would make 14!

Chester will definitely see the season out. The latest rumour is that all the current squad can go as soon as they can find themselves a club and the season will be played out under the 'stewardship' of Maison who will bus in youngsters to form the team from his midlands 'centre of excellence' (wherever that it!) and re-group at the end of the season.

Some local thinking is that that will provide the breathing space for Ladak to clear the decks at Kettering so that he can move to Chester but this latter rumour seems to be a little less well supported. (I wouldn't bet against it though).

All in all however it's a GREAT time to be an Alty fan - and a conspicuous one - in the Chester/Wrexham area!  :D :D :D :D

Didn't Ernie Taylor turn out for us in the early 60's ? He'd been a classy inside forward, and had the distinction of having appeared in the FA Cup Final  for three different teams (Newcastle, Blackpool, and Man.U.). Unfortunately he was past his sell by date when he reached Moss Lane.

Mickey Walker, a decent inside forward some years later, recently had a spell as caretaker manager at Doncaster Rovers.

I'm fairly sure that was a different Mickey Walker (unless we've had more than one playing for us - the one I'm thinking of played in the early 70's).

Vaughan and his cronies are just an absolute bunch of arseholes. It stinks what they've done to that club.
Careful, ALTY 1981. You just might have to go into a witness protection scheme if Mister Vaughan reads those comments...! I could never understand why Jim Harvey ever set foot in that club in the first place.

According to my excellent source at the Deva (who I met in the paper shop this morning!) he's just sold his house in Hereford and was desperate to make the job work at Chester because he wants to live in the (general/commuting) area where his kids go to school. He was hoping for the Tranmere job which would, for him, have been the dream scenario but is still hoping to get in at Kiddie - which, ironically, would now give him a commute the other way.

Was Albert Quixall the owner of the scrap metal dealers on Brown Street A & P Quixall?

yes. Freddie Pye, who was in the business himself, had a lot to do with his start in that 'game'.

And, if I recall correctly, that's how he came to turn out for us when Freddie was manager.

Blue Square  Premier Semi Final 1st Legs 29th & 30th APRIL 2010. 2ND legs 3rd & th MAY 2010. Play Off Promotion Final Sunday 16th May 2010, Wembley National Stadium.

one-off semis on 8/9 May, final can stay where it is. Isn't that a fair amount of time gained?

To be honest, that second half against FGR the other year seemed like 100 years in itself to me.  ;)

On the evidence of the hat, is that snowman a homage to Paul Showler, by any chance?

on the evidence of the body, it could be Tunna, Cult!  :D
