... when are we going to make our couple of big signings (i.e. a playmaker and a 20 goal a season striker)?

We've still got plenty of time, I suppose, but I was just wondering.

I know the team spirit we've got is fantastic, and we've got some great players too, but without the two reinforcements (who would be regular starters of course) we'll struggle to make an impression.

The part-time teams who make an impression tend to be 6ft+ long ball teams like Braintree. To buck that trend, and do a Halifax, we've got to make those additions I feel.

"If you take the ball away, they out-ran us, out-fought us, out-battled us and played better football than us."

Quote from Wrexham manager after last game.

Couldn't get on here for the last day or so.
No new messages seems to suggest I'm not the only one!
Are people coming back on soon? I'm getting lonely  :)

What does everyone think?

I said we needed another left-sided defender and Centre Half. This looks like a big step forward to me in filling one or both roles.
Unless, of course, someone knows better? ..................

Altrincham FC First Team / Northwich Villa
« on: June 19, 2012, 10:59:44 AM »
From the main site:

One team definitely calling Valley Road [Flixton] home next season is Northwich Villa.

'After much discussion I have managed a share move for us to play there', said new secretary Ken Stevenson. The North West Counties League has the same security of tenure regulations as the Northern Premier League, but has decided to make an exception for Villa. 'The intention was for Northwich Villa to continue playing at Winsford but that changed when the latter amended the terms of the original ground share', said a spokesman.

'Villa therefore looked for a new venue, and the league's emergency committee approved this one'. Winsford wanted to be paid next season’s rent before a ball is kicked. But Villa, who switched to Barton Stadium in January after the Victoria Stadium’s new owners Thor Specialities (UK) Ltd said football could no longer be played there, refused".

They're not daft are they!

Are all the teams from there the same? (With the exception of Witton, that is!)

From the Main site ...

"After a playing career spanning four decades, Dave Mehew, manager of Gloucester City, has hung up his boots – and this time it's for good" reports Pitchero Non-League. "Mehew was a regular name on the substitutes` bench last term as an inexperienced and injury-ravaged City squad battled away in the Conference North. But as he approaches his 44th birthday in October and with a host of young development squad hopefuls pushing for a place in the Tigers squad, Mehew has called it quits...

Satarted when he was 4 then!  ;D ;D ;D ;D *

Before you chomp, I realise what they REALLY mean  ::)

Altrincham FC First Team / Nostalgia!

Can't believe it's 40 years tomorrow since I visited that dump in Kirkby in my Mk1 Cortina to see the Supers beat a Kingy-inspired (I think!) home team in a 9 goal thriller!
Didn't they also have stock car racing or speedway there?

Can anybody link the thread we had on this match some time ago? (I'm fairly hopeless finding stuff on here)

From the main site;

The BBC states that "The Forest Green Rovers supporters' trust is re-launching its scheme to try and increase the club's playing budget. Any money donated to the GRASS (Give Regularly to Assist Squad Sponsorship) fundraiser is ring-fenced and can only be spent on players' wages. 'We would be trying to work to a target of £2,000 a month', trust chairman Tim Barnard told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

Just how appropriate is THAT acronym?
