Wow. Fourty years.
I watched it from the director's box with a bunch of school mates - Noel White's son was in our class!
A brilliant day in so many ways.

Thanks for the reminder Cult.

Not a moan (honestly) but if only we'd managed to take a few more points off the four teams at the bottom the gap would be even more impressive.
As others have said we probably lack the consistency to contend for the playofs but mid-table would be a great effort. I expected us to be battling relegation as that's the case for most promoted teams unless they have a huge pot of cash to spend.
Well done to Lee and the players.

We have belief, keep it going and well done Lee for not tinkering the team,  stability is the key. All those top level athletes in the premiership who moan about too many games over Christmas then take a look at our part time players fighting and getting on with it. Well done again boys!

This!
Double this!

Great effort and resilience at a time of year you would expect our passing game to be less effective. Keep it going.

Magnificent away win and other results went our way too. Should have gone up a couple of places and widened the gap between us and the teams below us at the stat of the day. Great stuff.
Thought I made it home quickly - surely you can't live nearer the ground that I do? (4 and 1/2 miles)

Nope. I'm a bit further away..... in Sydney.
Woke up in the middle of the night and had to check the result!

Goalkeepers are overprotected

I must have said that hundreds of times in my reffing career after giving what seemed like soft free kicks.....as i suspect have many officials at all levels.

There is a reason for it, and I know that this is wrong what I'm saying.

If you give a free kick then most people have forgotten about it and moved on to your next "howler" within ten minutes and two days later it may as well have not happened.

If you don't and a goal occurs, you can't "ungive" it as it is a matter of record and will be there for perpetuity

From behind the play (or wherever the ref was) it might have looked like there was significant contact. From the side where we were it was obvious that there was some distance between Tom and the keeper at the point when the keeper missed it .
The ref may have an excuse but the lino must have had a better view. The ball was in the net so there was an opportunity for the ref to consult. He just didn't bother.

To be more precise you bunked off school to attend the game. Seeing as half our teachers were there as well there wasn't any risk of disciplinary action.
Ah. Probably true. I hadn't recalled that. Watching Alty on a Wednesday afternoon was unusual. Bunking off school on a Wednesday afternoon wasn't.

facing Blackburn  in a 3 day week epic in the next round.
My possibly failing memory tells me that the home replay - in the good old days - was played on the Wednesday immediately after we drew at Blackburn.
The replay was played in the afternoon because no floodlights were allowed during that winter. We went straight from school to the game. I seem to remember it was a pretty decent crowd - I guess  a good number of people were off work.

« on: October 25, 2014, 10:25:08 AM »
Not quite sure why people think the current badge is 'traditional'. When I started watching Alty in the late 60s they - like most clubs - didn't have any badge on the shirts.
Badges started to be used more widely in the 70s so that clubs could make their shirts unique to their club rather than being generic. It was and is a marketing and commercial ploy so that the clubs could make money from selling replica kits.

There are clubs who have had a badge on their shirts since they were formed in the late 1800s and they regularly change the badges without any issues. My local club, Portsmouth, have regularly changed the badge design over the past 40 years. Their (very passionate) fans don't have any more issue with it then they do with the changes to the shirt design. Some like it, some hate it but at the end of the day they just get over it and move on.

The starting premise for this thread seemed to be that a simpler design might be cheaper to produce and so I assume would help teh club to make more money - just as new shirt designs do.

PS. If you want talk traditional lets get the red shorts back!

Woking are still available at 10-1 with Coral to win the League (a quarter the odds 1-2-3).

I've invested £10 each way today.....even a top 3 finish paying 5-2 ? MUST be worth a punt !

11-1 with good old Paddy Power
14-1 on Will Hill. I bit their arm off.

Because this is the nearest league game to me I'm obviously going to be in bloody Coventry on Saturday. Life, it craps in your pocket from time to time.

The Eastleigh away game is far and away the nearest Alty will have played to where I now live and on that day I will be in Sydney! Nicer than Coventry I grant you but about as far away as I could get. Gutted.

I can only imagine what my reaction would have been like if I was unable to attend and heard the commentary alone. Amazing.
I went nuts but I think I was outdone by by Mr. Flynn.
If only all football coverage was like this I'd happily pay for subscription. So much better than the insipid stream of cliches served up by the mainstream broadcasters.

Well done to all. Superb!

No sympathy for any club which tries to live beyond it's means especially when they've been there before and should know better.

A bit of a let down personally though. Salisbury is less than an hour away so could get easily get there even if it's an evening game. Ebbsfleet is a crap trip round the M25. Last time we played them I got as far as Leatherhead and then got stuck in a jam and missed the whole game.
