Altrincham FC First Team / WE can Do this!
« on: April 21, 2011, 11:44:17 PM »
Over the past few days i've been looking at the forum (and not posted). I've been thinking about the practicality of our next 3 games!!!

I honestly believe that we have the ability to win at least 2 of them! Whether that means in our bid to stay up, we will!  - I don't know.

But I do know that given our set backs (Coburns unavailability and Youngs recall) we still have enough quality in our squad to do enough on Saturday to win!

I've read all of the posts over the last few days and even the most hardocre amongst us have said we're going down - I know they still believe, that this is a bid to bring us all together.

We're all looking at other results, but the resiliance of the hardcore that have endured this season and the resolve that we've all shown will ( i have no doubt) come together on Saturday and prevail!

We are one...... We are Alty.... We still Believe..... We can do this......

I hope the players read this and have passion to produce a result not only on Saturday, but Monday and the Sat after.......

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Southport predictions
« on: March 29, 2011, 09:54:50 AM »
I just hope we perform better than the last time we played Southport at home (Setanta Shield I think a couple of years ago!)

I'd take any sort of win 1-0, 6-5 - doesn't matter. As long as we keep our momentum going...

We have to nullify them early on, because they will be bang up for it.

It's going to be an exciting one (which now means it'll be a 0-0 bore draw!)  ;D

« on: March 21, 2011, 10:03:36 PM »
This made me chuckle, accept a  point and a clean sheet in every game means he'll take 0-0 from each of their remaining 7 games, giving them 44 points! I'd say that would put you right up sh*t street Mr Hockaday.

Worst team i've seen in a while at Moss Lane

Indeed thanks to Geoff and his family, I hope he might still have some sponsorship of the club? A pitch side board  (or 2) maybe?

So who next? I woudn't like to suggest. But the Barney's Chippy stadium doesn't really have the same ring as Moss Lane!

We need some serious investment, I hope that one of the local businesses take interest.... Otherwise (if we stay up) without that investment, we will really be struggling.....

Have I missed something? Has Smith been charged by the FA? I thought he'd served his 2 game ban for being sent off and that was the end of it?

Jacko. Yes I can read and I do understand your attempt at a bit of humour, but to be honest the whole Saunders thing was last year. So i'd say your last comment about Gateshead conceding 2 against wrexham is just you being arsey to a thread you probably thought everyone was going to join in with in the first place.

Rather than make back handed remarks about officials (which you deem to be boring!), maybe you should state your opinions and views in a structured manner, about Alty and their performances - good or bad,  rather than poking fun at other teams (Who to be honest are better than us!)

We're on the back of a win and most other ("miserable") gits have got much bigger things on our minds than Wrexham, i.e. Beating a relegation battle. We won on Saturday, revel in that, but one swallow doesn't make a summer! so take an inward look before you start poking fun at a manager that has his team in the play-offs (even if he isn't the best manager in the world)?!?!

To be honest, I think this thread is stupid. We should really be worrying about the fact that Gateshead put 7 past what has been a decent Wrexham team this season and we still have to play them (a game which I thought we would get something out of)

Let Wrexham get on with their troubles and we'll concentrate on Alty (I doubt they had a thread saying 'lets all laugh at Alty when we got marmalised by Crawley?!)

I've been nothing but optimistic about this season, despite the awful start, the poor performances home and away, but we really have to be honest with ourselves and say, If we play above ourselves we can compete with teams at this level. However, where we drop below the required standards we ultimately end up getting hammered. That is what happened tonight. Histon looked fitter, more passionate, hungry and willing for a relegation battle. We did not.

There are some players after the last week that should feel ashamed picking up there pay cheques! Some players are not good enough. I would name them, but we all know who they are. There are some players who are good enough and we know who they are. They are the ones that end up trying to do too much on the pitch (Clee for example) and there are players who could be good enough if they wanted to be (Twiss for example).

It's about time that each one of the players on that pitch/bench tonight, took a long clear look in the mirror and ask themselves. 1) Am I up for this battle. 2) Do I want to play for this club 3) Am I going to give it my all in the remaining games of the season. Only the answer 'yes' to all 3 is good enough. If you can't be arsed, f*ck off because you're just a liability.....

I know this is negative, but tonight for 80 minutes we were not interested. Histon since their point deduction have really gone for it. We look like relegation fodder. Some will come on here moaning about the ref, but what's the point! He didn't give some decisions. The offside goal was offside. It was my first thought when Reeves put it in. Other decisions on another day will go our way and a more regimented ref might get his cards out earlier!

At the end of the day, be under no doubt that i'll be there on Saturday in a game which if we turn up we can win, but based on tonight the players who played need to ask themselves a lot of questions, stand up and be counted, because in reality there is only Perigianni to come back in and only they can make the difference. We are 'blind' in our support and will keep going to the bitter end (Hughesy put it perfectly for me tonight 2 mins into the second half when he said "if we carry on like this we're fu**ed"). We'll keep believing. My question to the players directly and/or indirectly is Are you?

Rant over

What does everybody think?

Smith to Stockport seems to have gone quiet. Is it happening?

Do we expect any new faces to bolster our squad?

Altrincham FC First Team / Maximum Capacity at Moss Lane
« on: January 22, 2011, 10:40:47 PM »
Trying to break up the morose nature of today, a nostalgia question for you forumites!

What is the maximum capacity that Moss Lane has ever held.

I know that the record attendance is 10,275 - Altrincham boys vs Sunderland boys English schools shield 1925!!!

But what is the max capacity that the ground was meant to hold at anyone time (i.e. before the morseleum or the family stand or even before the main stand was developed!)

I'm "advised" it was was c9000 but given the 6085 limit at present (as per non league directory). Can anybody advise in any certainty what it was??

Thanks,

PS - Today was a blip, we'll be back to winning ways on Tuesday!!

We've done well to come away from tonight with a point, so very pleased with that. Have only read sky score centre text commentary, but looks like we were under massive pressure after Joesph went. Obviously can't comment on the sending off, but I suspect Perry made it look worse than it was - Will wait for those at the game to comment. Let's hope that the players KM is trying to bring in, include a centre back

2 massive home games now.... Current league form suggests we're better than the bottom 4 and others around us are in free fall.. Eastbourne, Histon, Kettering.... So let's get right behind them on Sat and Tues next week.....

20 to go, come on boys.

Might be worth Denham for Reeves, straight swap. Get Denham running at them - sure he'd find a blade of grass to fall over and waste some time!

Good if Welch is available, but he can't be anywhere near match fit?

Surely a back 4 of Densmore (RB), Smith (CB), Williams (CB) and Perigianni/Brown (LB) would be better?

We can hold on here. Come on boys....

Magnificent week of football for us, even the commentators magnanimous in defeat saying "Altrincham to good to go down"

Shame we have a CSC game and not FGR to play on Tuesday!

Off the bottom though!

Well done boys......
