Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Re-sign Matt doughty
« on: October 22, 2011, 06:58:32 PM »
I disagree about re-signing Doughty, that would be a backwards step. I've never been a fan of brown and he was awful, but he wasnt the only one. Williams and Flynn were abysmal, Less was marginally better than them.

Credit Stalybridge a bit. There finishing was clinical today...

I'll put this on another thread but I think we're carrying to many players.. maybe we should take our medicine tighten up at the back by signing some young, keen lads and get rid of the diatribe we see defensively week in week out?

I am sure that the pub next to the ground closed a while ago?

Not 100% sure, not been up there for a while. It's called the Hare & Hounds and still has a website, so my guess is that it's still open?!

I wouldn't park at the ground. There is a large(ish) car park there, but it's shared with a gym and getting out will be a nightmare.

There are loads of side streets off the main road that the ground is on, with ample parking.

As for drinking, the buffet bar is OK, but gets busy as it's on the ale trail.. There are loads of places in Stalybridge - near the station, which is about a mile away from the ground, albeit up a big hill.  The pub next to the ground is OK too.

Hoping we can take 300+

We absolutely should never play songs after scoring a goal ! I think our support is vocal enough without needing the help of some micky mouse pop singer!

Next we'll be having the drum debate again! Before anyone suggests it, we don't need one!

Only just seen this - Have to say I am totally underwhelmed..

Williams was awful last season and didn't hesitate to move on (I know it was a level above and all that!) He's been injured pre season, but Telford clearly have seen him for what he is. Jones was awful, but Robbie does not play football from the back, he doesn't even hoof it, his right foot is more like a Pitching wedge!

At the end of the day you can shine sh*t, but it will still be sh*t!

I hope i'm proved wrong....

Disappointed this morning....

I have to say that I think we're playing our best team from the start of each game (OK Lynch would be in my starting 11 and there's an argument for Mulholland to play more of a part), but to suggest that Richman (who we've seen very little of) and Summerskill (Who is not good enough - plain and simple) should be starting is ludicrous.

We've played some decent football this season (albeit in patches), but when you have nothing pushing you from the fringes, then it isn't long before players resort to type - i.e. Jones pre season - picking a pass etc, once he realises he's on the teamsheet every week he put's his foot through everything. I know i've only picked on one player there, but I could come up with more for the rest.

We need one win and I honestly think with a couple of shrewd loan deals we could be very strong in this league.

« on: August 24, 2011, 04:33:23 PM »
I'm not sure i'd go as far as we will win it, but I don't think we'll be far off the play-offs. I heard people saying 'we should be beating teams like Vauxhall motors' last night and I cringed. We've been saying how much we hate that phrase/term for the last 4/5 years and 4 games in we're at it.

We are a big scalp in this league (that's not being big headed, but we are), teams will raise their game and to be honest the gap between us and the other teams isn't that great IMO....

We probably should have won last night, but give Vauxhall a bit of credit - they were the team that created all of the chances in the first half and on the balance of play deserved a draw. We're bound to be disappointed having not held on in the last 10 mins, but the backbiting, sniping and blatant moaning going on at the moment is obscene. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but surely the overriding factor here should be that we're in a re-building period, over the coming weeks we'll get better as a team and the results will start to come!

I've looked on the Hyde forum today, they're moaning about us calling this league 'tinpot' Maybe it is/maybe it isn't, but we are where we are! They will be bang up for it on Sat, so lets stop moaning and get down to Hyde on Sat, where who know's we may just scrape a result....

Cheers Ecky,

Anyone know if there is a bar/club at the ground?

If not, is there anywhere close that does a decent pint?

55
Ha! Good shout, think i've been living in a dreamworld since the end of last season!

I of course meant to omit Eastbourne from my previous list!

I think we all know that these players for one reason or another are not BSP quality (fitness, ability (in Wilkinson's case) etc).

However, I do empathise with Southport a bit as they've found themselves in the same position as we did when we got reprieved a couple of seasons ago. They wouldn't know whether to plan for BSN or BSP until after the AGM, by which point, good potential targets have found themselves other clubs.

I suspect they'll have a tough challenge to stay up this year, but I don't think the league is as strong as it was last year... I think they'll be battling with Braintree, Eastbourne, Barrow, Ebsfleet, Forest Green, Hayes and Telford to stay up.

Don't they usually like to put a relegated team up against a promoted team?

On that logic, we'll get Colwyn Bay (Hopefully) and not Halifax (Who I think will be decent next year).

I've watched Chorley a few times this season, most recently against Salford City at the end of the season. Have to say that whilst it wasn't the prettiest football, they did try to get the ball down and pass it!

Also Matt Jansen would come with him. An Ex premier league player who could do a job at BSN level i'm sure!

This would be a great appointment....

I'd like a fresh face, Lowe at Curzon did a decent job, McGregor is a good shout..

What about Graham Barrow (If Wigan get relegated Martinez and staff might be sacked?) or Peter Band?

If Heathcote applied, his application should be shredded. If the board are naive enough to re-appoint the person who got us into this mess (I'll wait for the but he got us promoted blurb etc) in the first place, then they should be taken out and shot!

If GH is re-appointed as Alty manager a lot of people (who are regulars now and form our hardcore support) will not be watching Alty next season....
