Three storms in two days will not have helped.

Just to remind you those that cannot go like myself, yo can also buy the stream to watch the game live on TV. For a game like this as I have done so.

I cannot get to Chesterfield that night but am going to watch it on TV via the National League site.

Fair point GolfRoader, think this was exactly Phil and Neil's thinking. It does mean that both teams will have rested players, otherwise they will have had a bigger advantage. Though Chesterfield are a fine attacking side they still have one or two weaknesses occasionally in their defence.  We will see what happens Tuesday.

Buxton at home - 06th October 1974 won 5-0 or 5-1, Ian Morris scored 2 that day and John Hughes also got one i think.

Did buy a programme that day but no longer have it. I read them and chuck them out every couple of seasons.

Have been a regular watcher since that day, had a slight lull during 1977 but restored again in 1978, but caught the 77/82 years. Often hampered by having to work some Saturdays, especially during the 80's, but not missed many home games since early 1978 now.

I'm now 66, but was a 17 year old kid, so first game was the day after my 17th birthday. If we have any pictures in our archives from my early years that would be a miracle!!

Thanks Rory's Grandad, I also watched Georgie Best play in the 67/68 season and until he left the club. I distinctly remember a defender once falling over when trying to take the ball off George Best as he twisted and turned. Thought that may happen to a Barnet defender at the time too last Saturday. In my pre-Alty days I used to go to United on a regular basis until they had trouble with their fans in the early/mid 70's when it became intimidating. Remember Dennis Law appearing from nowhere at the Stretford End and netting a goal; remember thinking 'Where the hell did he suddenly come from'.

Coincidentally, I think CCC and George are from the same city as well.

What a great day it was last Saturday. For the first time I took advantage of the fan zone and had a beef Madras with rice, very good indeed, the girls had Nachos with cheese and tomato. There was a decent artist playing too, performing a mix of 90's hits. Then the football happened.

Mesmirizing play at times and some great attacking football reminiscent of the 70's/80's team. Bainsy was great, Dan Mooney looks back to his best, something that Southend couldn't seem to bring out of him, good bit of business for us. Regan was an absolute menace to Barnet and all I can say about CCC is he our very own George Best! We should tell United fans he has been reincarnated!

Great afternoon, my updated prediction now is 3rd or 4th, we seem to be strong going into the new year but the next few games are going to tell us how strong. Just hope we can keep injuries to a minimum.

Well done lads and management, you are a truly entertaining team well worth the entry fee. In fact, it's a bargain. You deserve the extra support we are getting too.

« on: January 08, 2024, 09:41:49 AM »
I agree, we're more imaginative with our corners and they are unpredictable, Barnet nearly got caught out by them. Don't really care how we score, so long as we do. This team is full of imagination and scoring possibilities, looks like we're going to have a 20 goaler this season too. A lot of our goals are work's of art to be honest and if Regan had managed to put that one away from CCC's dribling, we would have had a contender for goal of the season.

Will not be long before Regan is on the mark again, my guess is Kiddy on Saturday.

That's going to disrupt them before our game, not an attractive gig for Phil/Neil either.

Lets capitalise on this next weekend.

What are our fans opinions about new positions and players for the January transfer window.

Hope we don't lose any players.

Thoughts??

Milli Ali is leaving Halifax imminently apparently according to the JL site, assume during the January transfer window.

All in all though, after Kozzy's sending off I'm reasonably happy with that result. At least the New Year still finds us in the playoffs.

We go again next Saturday with a hard game at home to Barnet. Tough one that!

I have to take my hat off and confirm I felt the same way as fans in all of the above comments. However, there is a reason for everything and if you all listen to Phil's summing up of the game yesterday, they are not excuses for the defeat, but they do make me feel a little harsh in my criticism of the team and management yesterday.

Phil speaks of the long journey to Bromley, injuries picked up and also of playing a match with 10 men for the majority of the game, then a long journey home, arriving in the early hours. I'm not surprised there was very little left in the tank, the team did not have time to rebuild after that game, and Elliott was still carrying the blow to his ribs from Michael the Cheek.

I think we should just lay off them, put it behind us and go again on New Year's Day, and appreciate what a good speaker Phil is. I never saw things that way yesterday, but Phil is closer to the team than we are, knows his players well, and is vastly more experienced than we are. The points he made in his interview never crossed my mind during the game. He does support his team well, and I like the way we will still chanted for them and applauded them after the game. That alone could turn New Years Day into a win.

Don't be too disheartened by yesterday's result.
