Hmm, I'm not so sure of this one Chris.

We have a history in the FA cup of beating 16 or is it 17 teams from the league, even though not so much recently. Alty have always been good FA cup battlers while Luton struggle with their points deduction at the bottom of the table. The situation of the two clubs could be very attractive to TV companies, who like nothing more than a giant killing. Even though it is by no means a David V Goliath situation it is still an interesting one given Altys history and Lutons current situation.

Whether or not the TV companies go for it remains to be seen, but I certainly think they will give it the consideration it deserves.

We shall see

Message to Cult from Steve from Sale:-

Cheers for the work trawling through our archives. The Buxton game was the first match. I know it was a high scoring game and was also just after my birthday, I had been to ManU the previous Saturday or the one before and had complained to Ian Haigh about feeling intimidated in the Scoreboard paddock when some away fans had accidentally gone into our end and were surrounded by United fans bordering on aggressive behaviour. I only asked them to leave them well alone, but they started to turn on me so I walked away and avoided confrontation. I had seen one of the away fans who was so absolutely terrified his left leg shook uncontrollably, and it really got my back up. Fortunately the stewards and police arrived just in the nick of time and escorted the away fans to their own end. The lad who was terrified, flashed me a look of gratitude on the way out which pleased me immensly.

When you read the above story you can now begin to understand why I like non-league so much. The majority of fans go just to watch a football team play good football, not go out looking for confrontations. I neither understand or care for the mentality of loutish behaviour, but I still have a deep love of the game, especially at non-league and junior football level, having been involved for the last 8 years with Unicorn.

Footy is great, footy is bazzin', footy is my way of escaping from life's problems, without it I would be lost. But more importantly I had a club that gave me what I wanted, where the players felt like everyday lads such as me. But played the game for love of it, not for money. I remember speaking to Chris Adams who is ex Unicorn. Chris told me of his similar love of the game, and how he spent hours on fields with his mates as a kid and at Unicorn playing the game he loved. There were battles with parents trying to get him in at night to go to bed!!

That is real football, you may get the crowds in the premierships and atmosphere, but theres no way you are as close to the club and team as we are; and you certainly cant have a pint with em afterwards in the bar!! There is not one of those lads in the team at present who do not think likewise.

Keep it up Alty, ignore the 'No Disrepect Crew' and carry on shocking and ramming it down their throats!!

I quite simply cannot remember.

All I know was that it was October 1974, and I went with a lad called Ian Haigh from my college. His dad owned the paper shop next door to the Fine Kettle. Previously I supported United, but found Old Trafford to be dodgy as they were going through trouble around those times. On complaining to Ian after a MUFC match on Saturday he said, 'I'm going to Alty tonight, why don't you come with me' It's a great atmosphere.

So I remember why I ended up here when I was 17, but no details of the game whatsoever.

Never looked back but still armchair fan of United, and go once in a while, IF Alty are'nt playing!!

Would appreciate who we played at home Oct 74 which would give me the answer.

Never realised it would last this long

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Graham must take great credit

Great email thread you have started, I have always been an avid supporter of Graham, his team and the board.

I know you and others have been critical of the team in the past so your email showed you are prepared to give credit where its due. I think Graham and the team deserve your comments and as I say I am glad to see them. I will add to that and say to Graham, Graham, the team and anybody else called Graham to keep up the good work.

From what I can see they have found a way of playing that suits them best, and is flexible. It is also producing results against good sides in the top half and as time goes by I think we will get even better. More shock results will come I am sure. Just in time for the start of the FA Cup.

I know that the management team will be disillusioned from what has happened in the past, but to be honest the club now have a chance to go onwards and upwards on what has happened to us now, so no changes at the top down please, and everybody keep up the good work you have done so far.

Thanks for the great entertainment so far, keep it up and well done to all!!

I am glad it has worked out for him, I remember at the start of the season that I logged that I thought he may be the man to watch, glad I was proved right.

I might add that his best asset is breaking down the oppositions play, several times last night he bolloxed up Mansfields attacking moves and started counter attacks. Spreaded the ball out well, particularly out to the left wing. Hes a good player who deserves to keep his place so far.

This was before i had even seen him play, based on his pedegree at Leek.

Was not outstanding in the friendlies, but has come on in leaps and bounds since the season started.

Nice one Anthony.

Hes fast, hes quick, his footballs very slick, Danylyck, Danylyck!!

Need I say more

From Steve from Sale - the curry king
Hi, best Curry Houses, the Dilli is very good though the menu is slightly different from what we are used to. But I have not yet eaten there, though I am told you get what you pay for, slightly Indian Cordon Bleu type.
There is a reasonable one next door to the Old Market tavern, which is a little lower in price but not much; this was the old Sheer Khan but there is now another one in it's place. The Old Market Tavern I think is also Altrincham's best pub.
There is a restaurant past the Downs going towards Alty Grammer school on the left, which is very good and I have had enjoyable meals in there.

Other as mentioned previously are all ok.

Outside the area there is one opposite IBM in Sale where I had a great pepper sauce curry, it was out of this world!!

The other which deserves a mention is the Naawab in Levenshulme on the A6, and old converted cinema. This is well attended by our local Indian population, which I think is a good recommendation in itself. You can get a three course all-you-can eat meal for £10.00 per head, plus drinks and pappadums.

I would try the Dilli to be honest, I will do that myself very soon.

Enjoy your night
