Thanks a lot for all the nice comments, just shows once again what a nice bunch Alty fans are.

It's been a rollercoaster of emotion for 8 years, many highs (to be fair) and many lows (!) but I felt we deserved our success this season by trying to play football the right way, being respectful but determined, and I'm glad we did it in that way as there have been plenty of teams who have bullied their way out.

We have made some good friends and played a lot of "new" clubs over 8 years, obviously we'd played Alty before in the FA Cup, but I think I can speak for most York fans when I say there has been no nicer, welcoming bunch than you lot and our trips to Moss Lane were always brilliant days out.

I will be following your results in the hope you win Conference North and reclaim your place as one of the most famous clubs in "real" non-league. I will hopefully pop along as I'm sure Sky will start messing about with the fixtures so I'll have some free Saturdays!

Thanks again and all the best.

Superb Mick, thanks a lot.

There's even a train back home from Piccadilly at 00.53 so no problems getting back.

Altrincham FC First Team / Quick Questions
« on: February 19, 2012, 05:37:10 PM »
I am thinking of coming along to Alty v Hinckley on Tuesday, just a couple of questions:

1) Will this be a decent game?
2) How much is it to get in?
3) Is the metrolink thing running properly as last time they were digging it up?
4) What time does it run until (after match)?
5) How much is your programme as I might buy one?
6) Does Barney's have any chips?

Cheers.

Well done Ballers, hope the DVD helped but they are a right bunch of muscleman these Darlo boys (ooooh!).

Meanwhile York won 3-1 at Prescot Cables mainly because of a rather unseemly brawl in the second half which reduced them to 10 when they were the favourites to win.

In the next round we have Altrincham fans' favourite club, Macclesfield Town.

What does it say on that flag? Something about "Hating Macc"?

Just out of interest, how can fans of other clubs donate towards the sponsored walk?

If someone wanted to send a cheque, who would it need to be made out to, and where would it need to be sent to?

Cheers.

Darren does use the phrase "gone through the justice system" so hopefully everything is as it should be.

I hope so. Only a month or so ago we had some fans banned via Section 14b through the civil courts despite not having been convicted of any offence.

I would say Section 14b is one of the biggest issues for football fans today in terms of human rights and the introduction of "guilt by association" whereby you can be banned from football and have to hand your passport in etc just because you were drinking in the same pub as a bunch of football hooligans.

Also, i'm sure Phil can correct me on this if i'm wrong, but equipment capable of streaming will be classed as Professional equipment and therefore banned from most places without specific permission. (Football stadiums, music venues etc.)

Absolutely correct and, in addition, anyone who wants to film, take photographs etc on a professional basis must have an official accreditation from the Conference themselves which involves filling in a very long form and waiting to be accepted, as well as permission from the club who is hosting the game, and the club the person is representing.

Otherwise what's to stop Joe Bloggs from turning up at Harrogate Town, claiming to represent Alty, getting in free, filming the game then flogging a few copies to his mates to pay for his beer money?

It may even be the case that the accreditation deadline for the 2011-2012 season has passed by now seeing as we're into September.

I come across this issue all the time, there are too many people who show a total lack of respect for doing things properly and who take the mickey by thinking that they can turn up and do whatever they want.

39
That's what you should have done in the first place.

If they say "yes" I'd be amazed, but you never know.

Live streaming is not the same as making a recording, but you know that surely?

40
More importantly, do you have permission from Solihull FC?

I would be amazed if any club would allow an away team to stream a game live they are expecting spectators to pay for, especially if they are not offering the service themselves.

If you came to York and did that you would be removed from the ground immediately due to a breach of ground regulations.

As crap as non-league is, clubs do have rights you know!

If they have been convicted of an offence in the courts then good.

If this is another abuse by the police of Section 14b then not good.

That all sounds very reasonable.

However, if we are worried about the opposition getting to know our game surely we should also not show the goals we score, as this is also valuable information.

I'm only guessing but I would imagine that your club want to provide entertainment to the fans (by showing the good bits) but don't want to give too much away (by showing the goals conceded).

That said, I can't see why this would be an issue in a regional league like Conf North. The argument put to me is that most BSP sides can't afford a scouting system because of the geographical distances involved and so, by providing public highlights, you are giving info away. But surely if you are, say, Droylsden, Vauxhall, Hyde or whoever, you can just send someone along to watch Alty to take notes and analyse in person.

If FGR, Ebbsfleet etc want to put on 10-20 minutes of highlights then that's great for York because we are not going to be paying someone to travel all that way to scout so instead we can just watch the bits online. However, a lot of clubs are only round the corner from you so does it matter?

Devil's advocate etc.

If an away team scores a goal at Moss Lane do they own the rights to it?

No, they don't.

However, I'll wager it's something to do with Alty not wanting opposition managers to be able to see the goals the team have conceded so as not to pick up any tips.

At York, Martin Foyle actually banned our YouTube highlights service because two other managers mentioned to him that they had used the clips to train against us. So, we introduced a subscription scheme to control who has access to the output. Paranoia? Probably. But you need the backing of the club and if they're not happy there's nothing you can do.

However, the way round this problem is to compile a mailing list of Alty fans who want to watch the highlights then make the highlights "unlisted" so nobody else but those people who are sent the link via e-mail can see them. At the time our highlights were banned this option on YouTube was not available.

Phil,

We have the delights of the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round on Saturday, 1st October 2011.

A meeting with FCUM or an away trek to some obscure former miners' team from Northumberland beckons....

SECOND? I hope that's a mistake? Surely you don't have to go through two extra rounds just because you went down one division?!

Do we have to wear a tie to get in YCFC ?    ;)

I think you have to leave your enthusiasm for your team and your will to live at the turnstile.
