Jimmy Brown may have been one of the trio from Sankeys.

Yes I did think Jimmy Brown was one of them. Think George Forrester may have been the other one.

Actually I'd probably been attending now and again for about 4 years by the time that team was assembled. Most of the earlier teams always contained at least a couple of A N Others in the line-up reported in the Friday edition of the MEN. The only players I can really recall from the earlier days were the ex-pros we signed....John Higgins, Tommy Banks, Albert Quixall, Charlie Mitten and for some reason, an absolutely useless Scottish centre forward, who could only head the ball but couldn't use his feet to save his life, and I think was called McCreadie

Yes he was the engine room of the team alongside Les Campbell in midfield. Popped up with the occasional goal if I remember correctly. He was one of three players who joined from Sankeys but I'm struggling to remember who the others were, even though I can still recite the full starting eleven!

Although on the whole I was a fan of Sinnott, one of his big problems was his obvious lack of contacts in this neck of the woods. As we all remember, many of his signings were either mates of existing players or suggestions Hughesy made on here. It will be even harder to attract decent calibre players next season so it's imperative we have someone with a good contacts list and knowledge of players in this area.

I've wondered about this. Perhaps he never recovered from his injury sufficiently to play to a good standard in any such match?

He wouldn't really have to play would he? A team consisting of the best Alty players (in his opinion) he's played with against a United team seeming he's a red. Maybe Colin Little could have a word and get a few first teamers to play (United's not ours!).

Players do generally play in their own testimonial matches, don't they? If he was putting together a team of great Alty veterans, surely he'd want to be in it?
Usually but on occasions it's not been possible due to injury. Stuart could take the kick off and then enjoy watching someone like Andy Dibble, Craig Dootson or Richard Acton keeping United at bay!

This has reminded me of something I've been meaning to ask for a while.....why didn't Stuart Coburn have a testimonial match or did he have one which I missed?

Yes quite bizarre tactics, a centre back taking corners. Not something you see too often!

Does it mean that the Board just consists of Rowley lap-dogs now?

2-1 loss Lynch and Sinnott scoring for Halifax

Watched the Halifax v County highlights and have to admit, from the bits he was involved in, Lynch looked pretty useful. I was one of his biggest critics but maybe he just needed a few decent players around him.

His comments on leaving, about senior players not pulling their weight, certainly had some substance when you think how woeful Moult, Lawrie and, to a degree, Reeves have been since Lynch left.

To a degree? He's the most senior at the club out of all that you've mentioned and he has been woeful this year. He should be leading from the front but he just doesn't seem to have the heart.

I gave Reeves some leeway based on the dreadful lack of service and support he's received this season.

1-5 defeat is the best I can see for Saturday I'm afraid.

Where the hell do you find trialists at this stage of the season?!!

I expect there are quite a few players out there looking for a club just now

Well if that's true it really surprises me. Anyone who is half decent surely must be with a club?

From a corner according to the updates. I suppose everyone would have been back again so Heathcote's tactics not really paying off....again!
