Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Alfreton Town : match thread

I'm in the Yorkshire Dales for the weekend so thankfully my season is over. Nailed on home win as the last home league games I've missed were Aldershot, Welling and Worcester.....that's right, I haven't seen us win a league game since Woking in January last year!

Just back from the game.

First up Curzon were not very good, in fact they were poor.

First half I thought was tough with the wind and a the ball bouncing very high.  The ref made a very clear point to the defenders about pushing at the corner so they really cannot complain about what was a fair penalty.  Very pleased not to go in losing cos we fully deserved to be level at half time.

Second half was bitty, I was stood behind the goal and it didn't take long for their keeper to start losing his concentration - he looked ok to me but the mental side of the game was beyond him this afternoon.  He was telling me that CAFC put out their second team, and that we should look forward to the Evo-Stik.  He really let himself down getting involved with a fat lad like me.

The second pen was fair too and the celebration for their equaliser was almost silent.

Pleased with the win, very happy indeed but dear god we didn't have to beat much today.  If anybody thinks that performance is enough to get us up next year - forget it.

Chips were cold too.

If that is true that they played their second team, and he's not their regular keeper, then that is another new low we've achieved this season if Curzon are resting players against us!

If i were the Chairman who had overseen there club being relegated twice in successive seasons and was aware of people who had the wherewithal to take the club forward I would be gone in a heartbeat.

Perhaps one of the reasons he is sticking around is maybe he is hopeful of some sort of recognition for his work in overseeing the CSH getting off the ground in the form of an award (MBE) etc ...

Just a thought ........

I've said that a number of times on here and believe is the reason he won't quit, even now.

Re Letsby's remark, I don't think that is the case. For one thing, Alan Ainsley would see through that. I do think that all players on the injury list would play if they could - no player likes being injured and a lot of the players we have out would walk though fire for this club - Tom Hannigan, Sean Miller and Nicky Clee to name but three. Nicky joined us on the terraces yesterday, nice to see as a fan.

We have had more than our fair share of injuries this season, things would be very different with Sean Miller playing all the way through and with Tom. we missed Nicky yesterday with his creativity, with him playing I think we would have won the game. But imagine how our results would have turned if we had had Sean playing though the season so far, one of my players of the season so far, but for his absence at a crucial stage of the season.

I have to say I've seen absolutely nothing to suggest Miller and especially Hannigan would walk through fire for this club. You're making Miller sound like the second-coming of George Best whereas I would describe him as the best of an awfully bad bunch. The only difference he'd have made if he'd been playing is that he might have scored a handful of spectacular consolation goals. I'm pretty sure there will be a mutual tearing up of Hannigan's contract at the end of the season.

The saddest thing about all of this is the divisions created amongst the fans. I'm no fan of the proposed walkout but I respect everyone's opinion and right to peacefully protest. I just hope we can all regroup and get behind the team and the club soon, under whatever leadership there may be.

Colin

That can be achieved by one move......Rowley resigns as Chairman, simples!

1st it was heathcote out, then sinnot out, then it was Tolson out, then Young, then Harvey now its Buzz and his management team and Rowley.I think it needs to stop and people get behind the club.We have not been relegated yet(i know its going to happen sadly)but its time to stand together and build for the future.

And to be honest, the fans were right on all those occasions. Some managers who'd lost the plot and a good few who should never have been appointed. It's difficult to think positively about the club and get behind them with the man responsible for the debacles of the last 18 months still in place. Get a new Chairman and I think there'll be a totally different response from people.

Altrincham FC First Team / Where are they now.......
« on: March 07, 2017, 03:04:55 PM »
In response to a question Cult asked me as to how easy it is to return from the Evo Stick Premier League, it makes interesting reading to see how the clubs relegated from Conference North since 2011 have fared. An interesting point for the Chairman to follow is that two clubs have folded and re-surfaced as Community Teams, now that would really help with the MBE aspirations.

Anyway;

2011/12
Blyth.....................Evo Stick Northern Premier        Current position 1
Eastwood...............Black Dragon Division South      Current position 2  -  Eastwood died and now Eastwood Community FC

2012/13
Corby....................Evo Stick Northern Premier        Current position 21
Droylsden..............Evo Stick North Division 1          Current position 13
Hinckley................Midland League Division 1          Current position 4  -  Hinckley died and now AFC Hinckley community club

2013/14
Histon...................Evo Stick Soutern Central 1        Current position 21
Workington............Evo Stick Northern Premier        Current position 10

2014/15
Colwyn Bay............Evo Stick North Division 1          Current position 17
Leamingtom...........Evo Stick Southern Premier        Current position 2
Hyde.....................Evo Stick North Division 1          Current position 12

2015/16
Lowestoft...............Ryman Premier League               Current position 11
Hednesford.............Evo Stick North Division 1          Current position 11
Corby

It makes pretty grim reading and it's going to take an enormous effort to bounce back straight away, it appears that it's a lot easier to sink lower than the Glue Premier league than it is to return to Conference North. Blyth look like achieving it this season after five years in the wilderness and they don't have the same level of competition as us when it comes to trying to sign players.

Actually thinking about it I'd keep Owens but tell him he's playing at left back, where he played when he was on loan to us a few years back. We need to have a team of giants next season so put him there and also find out when Tom Marshall is free and get him back.

Surely both Deasy and Hanigan should be encouraged to "mutually agree" to rip their contracts up. Unless there are major changes at the top (ie; the Board) then Heathcote will be signing his next two or three year contract anytime soon. Reeves has no chance of being here next season if the current management team remain in place.

There was a North East newspaper interview with Alun Armstrong (Blyth manager and ex-Stockport player) linked on the County forum a couple of weeks ago and he was saying how hard a league it is. He even went as far as to say it was too tough a league for the Under 23's from Middlesbrough (where he was/is involved with) to play in. From what he said, if we've still got any semblance of this squad and management team in place next season, I fear we will be following in Droylsden and Hyde's footsteps and dropping right through.

I'm away this week so it's a nailed on home win. The last two home games I missed were Welling and Aldershot last season so I'm expecting us to follow that trend......mind you they'll have to be dreadful to lose to us!
