Time to look to the future and put old grievances behind.
Bit annoying that he's felt the need to put that bit in - and arguably he should have been moved into a matchday operations role ages ago, as that's clearly where he's most comfortable - but it's done now.
It's a hugely exciting time to be an Alty fan, and I hope that, if there's any stay-aways, that they can come back now and help us forward.
A significant number of those staying away have signed up for the patrons scheme in the last couple of days.
I lost my family member in October if you care to cast your mind back. If I run out of bog roll I've got plenty of newspaper I can cut up. I assume that for the duration of this crisis you're going to lock yourself in your garden shed. After all, it's far too dangerous to go shopping, use any form of public transport, or go to a pub (God knows who had that glass before you). And don't think of going to church - pray at home, it's safer. When did we become such a nation of snowflakes ? One case in North Yorkshire (population over 600,000). You've got more chance of being mowed down by an ambulance FFS.Oh do f**k off
When it’s you losing members of your family we will revisit this. By the way have you got enough toilet roll? Snowflake.
At 72 I am "vulnerable". I'm doing precisely nothing differently to how I ever do it. If I get sick and die, so be it. I'll take my chances.
Just back and a few reflections on the day.....
- A brilliant performance, after a nervous start we got into the game, the passing was slick and we controlled the game. The Portsmouth goal came at a time we were really dominating the game. At this level you get punished if you play the ball back across the area.
- We have been playing well recently, but today we moved up a level, there were some immense performances, Jake and Sean in Midfield, James Jones at the back, Jordon caused them all sorts of problems and JJ was running at them, particularly in the second half.
- A few really strange decisions, the penalty is on the BBC and you can watch it, but the Portsmouth player who took out Jordan from behind when he was running in on goal didn't look to get booked, and they should have definitely been down to 10 men. Their number 19 Harness was booked then committed a further cynical foul on JJ, which was given as a foul but then the referee did nothing.
- Support was brilliant; you would be embarrassed if you had 8000 fans there and were out sung by 600 fans who had travelled 6 hours to get there.
- So despite the obvious disappointment, a brilliant FA Cup run, this must really help the budget this year. We just need to pick ourselves up, we are playing the best football this team has played.
only just picked up on this..I agree with most of the comments above.
Couple of thoughts...its a tough job being any non-league chairman...limited budgets, high degree of local public exposure, expectations that are understandable very high, but also very hard to achieve on those budgets. And attracting investment is tough, because in truth non-league football isn't a great investment in the traditional sense so you are looking for people investing into a subset of the local community rather than investing to make the more normal financial returns.
Also, better the devil you know. Sure he made mistakes (few people in that job wouldn't), but lets see who we get to replace him. Look what happened to Macc, Vics to namer but 2.
Don't forget there's still the highlights show at 5.15. Sounds like they were recording interviews with Peers and Thompson. The point of the live show was to cover happenings as they happened, and that what they did. They showed the penalty live, covered the goal, and had a handful of other reports. But then again it wouldn't be Alty without finding something to moan about.
The initial post was great; and I also have no problems with any of the board either. Lessons have been learnt all round and everybody at the club deserves credit including the chairman and the management team and through to the players.
It is great to see the club on the up, but I would plead with PP and Neil to stick with us and see how far they can take us. I am not discounting us as a league team in the next 5 years or so. Everybody see, including the fans who have elected to stay away, how strong we now are all the way through from board to team and all the fans. Come back lads, and lets all boost the club even further.
One thing to come out of the highlights for me is the performance of Tony Thompson. He didn’t cover himself in glory with their second, spilled the free-kick for the (mysteriously) disallowed goal and could easily have given away a penalty for a brainless rush off his line.
Wynne got dropped for far less.
