John's looking well. He returned to our walking football session this morning after a while out with a long standing hamstring/back problem. He can still play, head and shoulders above the rest of us duffers   ;D  Lovely bloke too, I try not to hold it against him that he went on to play for Macc (he joined Alty from Hyde). Made his living as a professional gambler.

At 2pm nobody had access to the weather forecast and needed to fire up ceefax to find out what was common knowledge. No problem with the game being called off but the delay in making what was a clear and obvious outcome was pure pantomime and so untypical of the club. I await an "Oh no it isn't" response. 😁

Or best efforts to see if the game could be played?

Dorking not travelling until Saturday so I’m not sure who lost out?

The highlights should prove popular. The first goal is already up, a very cool and competent finish. I wonder when the full highlights will appear?

After the embargo time,  would imagine this afternoon at some point.

Was a big 8 hour+ edit with 3 cameras and nearly 17 minutes in length. Currently processing so should be ready early evening!! ;)

Extra cameras are great

How many more games are we going to give Angus?
Won the pen but he was anonymous and has been for weeks.
Taking Amaluzor off and keeping Angus on the pitch was ridiculous.
We needed pace, Amaluzor and Sithole would have given us that.
Banks wasn't great either. It looked like his poor ball that gave them the ball for their 2nd.
Need to get more players into the box. Neither full-back overlapped, which meant too much passing around the edge of the box.
CCC was quality today, the rest average or poor.

I actually thought CCC had a poor game, his end pass was well off his usual mark

We now have a 2-1-1 record there.

Incidentally, I wouldn't fancy living in one of those houses that backed onto the away end!

You’re not alone. Very odd layout whereby the away fans have to walk through Brookside to reach the turnstiles.

Surely not as odd as walking through the library, and past the indoor pool at York?
Maybe we could introduce something more interesting for our away fans. Maybe a winding pathway trough the allotments from the King George to the turnstiles.

Fans used to walk through a cow field to get in at Cambridge.

On that note,we have sometimes had to walk up down and  a hill in the park (was that some sort of Army exercise?) to get to the away end at Aldershot, and I think there was something similar on my one visit to Boreham Wood.

Yes Aldershot's ambush alley!

Borehamwood is a gate and a little path to the turnstile?

I meant buying more time to regroup, ramp up the pressure etc
I seem to recall a similar story about a dog going on the pitch at Torquay - after which Torquay got the goal they needed to stay in the Football League. In other cases too, games seem to sometimes change after these stoppages so this flare incident could have changed things.

Indeed as soon as the flare went on the pitch the remainder of the game changed. We will never know how it would have ended if it didn’t happen but it certainly changed.

Another old adversary Hednesford Town are relegated from the Southern League Central Division

Wonderful news

He played just over a minute and half over the allotted extra time

It certainly gave them time to regroup, disrupt the play of the match and most importantly add another dimension of added time to added time which not openly shared and down to the judgement of the ref.

Should have put away one of the many previous chances and it would have been irrelevant.

I used to slag them off but I do understand them now.

They are a souvenir/memory of a big game.

Some people have displays etc with them.

Well said Andrew. There are still a few of us on here who were involved with SAFE and can vouch for the effort involved (while acknowledging that circumstances then were very different to now).
There’s a fine line between independence of the club and engagement with the club but I suspect there are sufficient motivated people to make it work.

Well volunteered

« on: February 16, 2023, 06:38:32 AM »
I thought as a full time club i would be able to contact them weekdays, between 0900 and1700.This is not the case,I have rung the club 3 times this morning to try and sort out my hospitality package i have won in Januarys draw.'Please leave your name and number and we will get back to you the next working day'.I live in Devon and need to book a hotel for the weekend and also sort out travel to Alty. I am trying to arrange it for the Solihul game on the 25th.
You're right, we should probably spend playing wage budget on having someone answer the phone at an empty stadium.

That’s a bit disingenuous, the bloke was only asking a question ffs, it could have been someone enquiring to spend some money on tickets or whatever. I’m sure all money for players is ring-fenced

He wasn’t just asking a question though, it was wrapped in a dig.
