What gives you the right to criticise as you werent there to witness it in the death of winter? Graham is God so is allowed to wait until January, I think we should see what he has up his sleeves first before we question him

Although not doubting Graham's sentiments. It could be that it is he that is the problem and that the players just don't want to play for him. If this is the case then his rant could possibly make things worse. I hope not for the club's sake as we need that win on Saturday

Heathcote stands firm
By Connor Murphy
Comment
GRAHAM Heathcote insists he will stand firm in the face of criticism from fans.

There have been calls for the Alty manager's head after Tuesday's 3-0 home defeat to Cambridge made it 10 games without a win.

But Heathcote is confident he is still the man to lead the Robins to Blue Square Premier survival.

Speaking exclusively to SAM Sport, he said: "All the people who are giving me one or two games to turn things around can play football manager if they want but I'm still confident in my ability.

"When this club were fourth bottom of the Unibond, who was brought in to turn things around? So if I was good enough for the job then, why should I not have the self-belief to think I can get it right this time.

"We have a bigger picture to look at. We've pulled this club out of the mire and want to sustain it playing at the highest level possible.

"I have been in these situations before and there's not a fan out there who will detract from my self-belief.

"If I was to leave this club it wouldn't be the end of Graham Heathcote in football. So why should I walk away from this situation just to walk straight into another one?"

Heathcote also has the backing of chairman Geoff Goodwin, who claimed he would leave the club himself if the Robins boss were forced out the door.

"Some fans have got short memories," said Goodwin.

"They need to look at what we have achieved at this club over the last five years and not be so negative. Graham is Altrincham FC."

After Tuesday's defeat, Heathcote will be looking to bring in loan players to bolster his ailing squad.

He added: "We've got to get our heads down and find answers to some major problems.

"Clearly we have major problems up front. We have always relied on Colin Little to score goals so when he had a tough time we were always going to struggle.

"The solution now is to borrow some players from league clubs but that's not a long-term solution, it's just a stop-gap."

I dont understand where this idea that a new manager coming in would spend money that we havent got and plunge us back into debt has come from. Any new manager would be given a budget to stick to by the board and any increase of budget would need to be approved by the board. The manager cant spend money he isnt given and im sure all budgets would be discussed on a new appointment in any case. The argument GH staying because he doesnt ask the board for money is a very weak one.

Altrincham FC First Team / GH isnt going anywhere

I dont think that GH is going anywhere, Im sure he would say that he has done enough for the club and that he has the right to leave when he is ready to go. The fact that he chose to parade around the bar saying he felt like a leper rather than in the changing rooms barracking his team shows that he has complete lack of respect for the fans. At the end of the day he runs the club and nobody will be prepared to say enough is enough. Personally I think he should go asap because a win against a poor Droylesden side will just merely paper over the cracks. He has been legend at this club and done a great job over the last 5 years but the events against Exeter, Woking and last night mean that the longer he stays the more likely he will be remembered by some fans for the wrong reasons like messers Taylor and King before him which would be a shame.

Altrincham FC First Team / Peter Thomson
« on: June 23, 2007, 03:58:20 PM »
Why couldnt he get a personal trainer and sprinting coach when he was being paid by us? Hes now earning less money but splashing out on them. When will Barrow learn

Blue Square North side Barrow have made their fourth summer signing with the capture of former Southport and Altrincham striker Peter Thomson.

Bluebirds boss Phil Wilson has worked with Thomson twice before, at Southport and Lancaster City.

And Wilson has kept a close eye on Thomson's progress since they went their separate ways and was quick to lodge his interest, following the 6ft 3ins frontman's release by Altrincham in May.

"Tommo is just the type of striker we need and have been looking for since early in the New Year," Wilson told the North-West Evening Mail.

"He is a strong, attacking striker, who will get us a good quota of goals.

"He had a bad time at Alty with injury but that's all behind him now and he is fully fit.

"He has been working with a personal trainer and a sprint coach and he is determined to get his reputation back on track.

"He has the potential to be a big favourite with the fans. If they get behind him and back him he will thrive on that.

"I enquired about him last season and because of that he has agreed to come to us over other clubs.

"There are not many target men about. I've had Peter twice and know the plusses and minuses with him.

"We always get the best out of him and we think we can do that again at Barrow."

I have just listened to flynny's interview with heathcote and he made one or two interesting points. Everyone has been clambouring on about the need for a fast and nippy winger and an out and out goalscorer but as heathcote says they are a luxury, expensive and probably out of our reach. He has signed one proven defender and one good/average defender (depending on who you listen to) and is slowly building a team from the back. Lets all be patient and see what materialises, Im not a massive heathcote fan but for once I have confidence in what hes trying to do.
