Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Players to keep?
« on: May 11, 2008, 12:04:34 PM »
It is up to the manager to find these players. A simple maths calculation will tell you that if you reduce the squad to 4/5 players then you will have room on the wage budget to replace the lost players. Too many players have been kept because of sentiment or because we've not had time. We now have the time and there cant be any excuses this season.

I believe the club are expecting confirmation early next week. Halifax Town afc still exist they just haven't got a league to play in because they failed the conference deadline. As Halifax went late Friday afternoon and the Conference and FA would have closed at 5pm I wouldnt have thought any decision could be made official until Monday morning at the earliest.

I believed a clear out was needed no matter what league we were in. Some of the players in that squad have suffered 2 consecutive relegations and have suffered many an ardous return from an away match having generally a) not performed b)having lost. That takes its toll and changes the mindset of the squad. As Graham is now staying (he would have been part oif my clearout for the same reasons) I don't think we will have a clearout but for what its worth.

We will still have to compete for wages but like I say some players will want to play in the highest league possible.

Yes indeed, not wanting to be accused by GH of having high expectations but can we start the season with the aim of remaining in 1st position  even if in realitythat is unlikely.

Can I say that it is excellent news from an Alty perspective as well. Had Stalybridge been promoted we would both have been competing for the same players and probably losing out to them to our prudency. I know that sometimes happens anyway but the promise of national football can intice some players who have ambition rather tha greed. We would also have shared media coverage on radio manchester and in the m.e.n. For what its worth we are still Greater Manchester's premier non-league team and under alphabetical order Cheshire's as well.

12.10pm
Talks are continuing into the afternoon which is pushing time limits to the brink.
Earlier indications from administrators suggested a decision either way would be known by lunchtime.
If a deal is struck the necessary paperwork has to be completed today to meet deadlines set by the football authorities.

Is there anyone from STAR that has an opinion on this proposal?

I think there is a difference. GH is only an employee of the club and therefore should the board see fit could removed from his position. However Glazer is the owner and could not be removed.

I presume also that the consortium would need to find the 10p in the £1.00. Wouldn't the inland revenue accept 10p in the £1.00 because it was them who proposed it?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Fundraising Ideas
« on: May 07, 2008, 06:05:29 PM »
The football tournament is a good idea and I think if I remember rightly one ws advertised a few years back but I dont think it happened. It would be too late for this summer though as the pitch will be being prepared for the new season which usually takes a couple of months.

538
Indeed that was the most disappointing thing about the Exeter game, everybody turned up with positive (not neccessarily high) expectations for the start of the new season and left feeling gobsmacked and upset at a certain persons behaviour. I think many people were just frustrated at conceeding 2 late goals after leading and not annoyed that we had played badly. There have been worse lows than losing 4-1 at home to Exeter City. If the club is to continue to grow its fanbase it will need to learn to take some crticism in the short term.

539
Would it be an idea with things up in the air at the moment to have a provisional meeting before the club's forum eithera previous day/night or even an hour before so that we can inform the board of our intentions and make the forum into a positive meeting. There will be many issues to discuss but at the end of the day whatever concerns are raised the board have made their decisions. So lets be proactive.

Ecky, DAB and Ideas4alty I agree with you wholeheartedly. Ive spent all week wishing that something could be done to lift the club. Never have I felt so demoralised since supporting Alty than on the return coach from Weymouth. I would support a new supporters association and admit I never joined STAR partly because I feel a supporters association should have a voice and where the supporters disagree with the club on a matter it should state this publicly, just as when the organisation supports the club then it does so without question. I would feel uneasy sitting on a committee though that works hard to raise money and then hands it over no questions asked.
