And I'm afraid you and the club have got it badly wrong today by simply assuming that your view of the playability of the pitch would be shared by the referee.

The simple fact is that any pitch inspection should be made at a time which shows consideration for the opposition's team and fans. To do it at 10.30 today was an absolute joke.

Ok mate - you've decided Southend must be wrong, no matter what, and nothing will change your mind. It doesn't make you right though.

And you've come on here to try to exonerate SUFC of any blame for this fiasco by throwing the local ref under the bus. You've not exactly exhibited a willingness to consider differing viewpoints yourself.

The pitch certainly looks playable from those clips but the big issue is the timing of the inspection. If it'd been done when it should have been done, ie yesterday lunchtime, then the team and the fans wouldn't have wasted their time and money.

I don't agree I'm afraid. The issue is not calling it off as early as possible, it is fulfilling the fixture if possible. Today it was clearly possible, but an idiot local ref showed his inexperience.

It is the responsibility of clubs to fulfil fixtures, first and foremost, not to call them off all the time if there is a bit of bad weather - postponing by default.

The local ref clearly got it very wrong today.

Hey Alty fans - Shrimper in peace. Really sorry for the bloody irritating late postponement today. There has to be a better way than this - its not on that people waste their day and their money for nothing all because of a tinpot bloody numpty local ref.

All I'll say is there are fumes coming out of Roots Hall at the local ref who called the game off, and plenty of digs / hints that the pitch is fine on our official Twitter account (see below). Note that our full first team squad are training on the pitch today - these videos were taken an hour ago, and you can see they are using right up to the end of the pitch by the South Stand - the supposedly hardest bit to defrost.

Where the hell do we get these local busybody prats from?? What qualifies local league refs to be experts on ground temperatures / thawing etc?

What do we think is behind this? There must be some rationale behind it. 🤔

Assuming it's not just a simple missed bit of detail from the website articles, I would think it's the club wanting to keep the contract details of our players under wraps to make life harder for any potential suitors.

Is it just me or is it a little odd to have a website article saying “full details” and then the article doesn’t say how long the new deal is for. In fact it contains no details at all, just some nice quotes.

Great news that they’ve signed up for longer than before but as I don’t know what that was or is I’m not sure quite how pleased I should be!

Completely agree. It's of a piece with the club's general policy of secrecy around eg injuries but it's pretty annoying for us as fans not to be told these things.

Huge tbh, I'm in agreement with Phil that Eddy is the best LB in the league, and Baines is easily in the top 10 in the NL at CB.

Next Isaac on an year extension. In my opinion, he is the best ball winning midfielder in the league and should be on most clubs radar.

Hoping there will be a few this Jan tbh.

From those most likely to be expiring this summer(?) my priorities would be Jake Cooper, Isaac Marriott, Elliott Osborne and Regan Linney. Don't think I've missed any other obvious ones...?

Marriott is under contract till the summer of 2025.

Not sure if CCC signed on a one or two year deal last summer , if it was one year he could go in the summer for nothing

I believe he's contracted until the summer of 2026.

I'll take a chance at football league over everything at this point.

Happy to have 10 less games in the boys legs for the minuscule chance of drawing a premier league team we get patted on the head by.
Exactly this ,  Mind you cup runs do bring in the big  bucks of course , we missed out of another chance with the  last minute goal by Pompey with the winners facing our old foes Spurs.  And the glory of course , remember Hereford getting into the FL in 1972 without EVER winning the Southern League title !!!

Portsmouth were away to Fleetwood in the round after they beat us.

I thought about that crowd comment. I dunno how I feel about that sort of comment coming from an ex-player at all. In fact, I have nothing against any recent ex-players apart from him and Mullarky. That says something.

It will take some humility to do an interview with Alty TV and back track those comments.

IF he is on his way back.
I think I'm right in saying that the comment about DM wanting to play in front of bigger crowds was something PP said rather than Mooney himself. In which case, I don't think it should be held against him.
He said it, in an interview with Echo News - https://www.echo-news.co.uk/sport/20262370.size-club-led-dan-mooney-choosing-southend-united/

He chased success rather than committing to it. It was never a good sign to be honest, especially when all the warning signs were already there at Southend.

Tbh, I even get Mullarky playing relegation team roulette in League 2 over Mooney's switch.

Fair enough.

His reasons for wanting to play for Southend there seem fair enough to me and I certainly don't think he said anything that's in any way derogatory towards Alty. So to suggest he'd need to go on Alty TV and do some sort of mea culpa if he did sign for us again is a bit much.

I thought one of his best performances at Moss Lane was for Southend last season when he played in the centre behind the front two I think? He's got ability no doubt, the trouble is end product - the very definition of a luxury player.

13 goals and 8 assists in his last season for us. I'd be delighted if any of our current wide players matches that.

They must own their existing ground and it's being sold for redevelopment I suppose?

They definitely don’t own their current ground. They have quite a short lease to play there in fact.

In that case, I assume the council will simply sell one site and invest in the other - and Wealdstone will simply end the lease at one site and move to the other?

Almost seems to be too good to be true, although of course it relies on Wealdstone's ongoing financial health as they could be booted straight out of the ground otherwise.

Still jealous though - I bet it'll look class.

The owners of the current ground I believe are a local Muslim association. I think Wealdstone are hoping to turn it into their training base.

I thought that too however Andrade, at 30, is not a typical Parky signing.

Got to be an upgrade on Byron Harrison though!

I'd rather we dipped into the loan market again if we have short-term gaps to fill.

The issue with that is if you get players in on loan, the expectation is that they will be starting games. But our starting XI isn’t the problem, it’s the lack of options on the bench. We just need a couple more squad players, particularly in the cup where you can name seven subs. I wouldn’t be surprised to see one or two of the triallists from Tuesday on the bench on Saturday.

A lot of people on here feel we should never divert from our usual 4-2-3-1 formation but we won that today with the three centre backs. So is it time to admit that formation can be a good option for us?
