The Ashington question remains........any older fans can confirm? Certain we played there about 1969?

And have we actually ever played at Caernafon? Or is it Bangor?

Is Exeter not further south than Weymouth?

Nope. We had Exeter down as furthest south and west but it's neither - how could we have forgotten the North Wales contingent?

My husband reckons that North: Blyth  South: weymouth  West: Caernarfon  East: Maidstone, he has looked all these up in the road map.

Dover's definitely further east than Maidstone.

Not sure about Gretna but now I think about it I believe we may have played Ashington in the first season of the NPL? That's North of Blyth.

Gretna isn't actually as far North as Blyth. Did we ever play Bedlington Terriers at their place? That's up that way too.

I think Torquay will become the southernmost place we've played once we go there next season.

North  Blyth

South  Weymouth

East    Dover....surprised me!

West   Bangor, or have we played at Caenarvon?

I think these are the right answers but I too wonder if there might have been a Welsh one somewhere West of Bangor.

I reckon two of those are right but I think i can improve on both south and east.

Blyth, Exeter, Bangor and Boston?

What's the furthest north, south, east and west that Alty have played a competitive fixture?

I think the coldest I've ever been at Moss Lane was about five years ago at a game v Droylesden just before Christmas. 2-2, iirc.

I was so cold that I just started laughing randomly.

We played at least one competitive match against Newport County, although it was subsequently expunged from history.

Indeed carshalton athletic dirty dirty bastards.

They had to be one of the dirtiest teams we have ever played against. Other candidates?

No idea why they aren't there. But I'd love to think Blue Square knows something we don't.

Are you suggesting there is some sort of conspiracy that Crawley ain't on the list????

If the page you're looking at is this one:

http://www.bluesq.com/bet?action=go_events&type_id=3912

then this is actually a series of bets on which of various pairs of teams will finish higher (presumably valid until kick-off in the first games, which is why it looks like opening fixtures).

All the pairings are teams of roughly equal standing (eg the four promoted teams are all paired together), to make the bets more interesting. These aren't the opening fixtures. For one thing, there's only eleven of them. No Crawley for some reason...

Blue square have the full fixtures as:-

Oxford United v Stevenage Borough

Exeter City v Torquay United

York City v Burton Albion

Kidderminster Harriers v Rushden & Diamonds

Cambridge United v Aldershot Town

Ebbsfleet United v Halifax Town

Droylsden v Histon

Grays Athletic v Woking

Salisbury City v Farsley Celtic

Altrincham v Stafford Rangers

Forest Green Rovers v Northwich Victoria

Altrincham FC First Team / Colin Little
« on: June 12, 2007, 11:03:18 PM »
Just watched my end of season DVD and among the many things that stood out for me, the most prominent was what a class act Colin Little is but what a freakishly unlucky and frustrating season that must have been for him. The number of near-misses he has is incredible, culminating in that awful moment in the last game. I hope the reprieve has eased the pain of that now.

It gave me the real sense that last season just wasn't his season but that now we've got the reprieve and he's got another chance at Conf National level, 07-08 is going to be the opposite and he's going to score a hatful. Hope I'm right.

Don't think it was paid much attention at the time, understandably since it was in a game we lost comfortably, but his goal at Dagenham was absolutely superb - reminiscent of one of Le Tissier's great goals, at Blackburn I think.

We are very lucky to have as good a player as Colin Little at Alty.
