There is no reason why the game can't be played at 3pm on Saturday and still be televised.

Well, there is. It's illegal. UEFA regulations do not allow games to be televised at 3pm on a Saturday (the so-called 'closed period') in England and Scotland. That's why SKY, Setanta and the BBC never have live games at 3pm on a Saturday. You can sometimes watch such matches via overseas satellite services but not British broadcasters.

Most of what I wanted to say about yesterday's game has already been said on here, but I just want to add that I think the loan players seem to doing more than playing well themselves - they also seem to be inspiring the old guard to reach a higher level. Just brilliant to see Stuart Coburn having one of those wonder games he's so often had for us (although not perhaps so much of late?), Joe O'Neill was indeed superb and looked much fitter and stronger than earlier in the season. I also thought Lawton played well and was certainly unlucky with the shot against the bar.

As disappointing as the result was, what a difference a month has made.

Having been to all the big cup / trophy games the BIGGEST game was 1-0 Runcorn to secure Conf North status - we could still be in the Uinbond if it wasn't for that win...

On the flip side though, how about Slough Town away in 1991?

From the BBC's preview of the Liverpool v H&W match:

"And instead of following their usual routines of making their own way to the ground, the Havant players will arrive in style at Anfield using the official England cricket team's coach."

Well, we at Alty do know the way to Anfield... Although they obviously won't have Bill Shankley on their team coach.

Alty's Starting XI then?

Lee Ramoon comes in up front, clearly.

And in goals, I'd have to go for Alex 'One Small' Stepney.

Our away support really depends on distance?

Northwhich and Stafford saw a good outing!

Droylesden we should take at least 300+

So based on our home crowd we do ok!

Cant remeber the exact number at oxford on our last southern outing, but it was into three figures, I'd assume a similar number for Cambridge on saturday.Im looking forward to seeing which bunch of oddballs turn up in torquay on a tuesday next month.

I will be there, London Alty contemplating the Tuesday-Saturday West country stopover.... even from bloody London there's only about 1 direct train a day to Torkey. It'll be a right laugh.

Russ, as mentioned on another thread, we need to keep an eye on Torquay's progress in the Trophy. If they beat AFC Wimbledon and then draw their fourth round game on Feb 23rd, I think the Torquay v Alty match will have to be moved again...

I've just had a thought about this, as I'm half thinking of a week in Devon myself.

The quarter-finals of the Trophy are on Feb 23rd, so if Torquay are still involved at that stage and draw their match, presumably our game on the 26th might have to be moved again?
Can anyone confirm if that's right?

If it is, worth holding off on any hotel bookings.

Dagenham and Redbridge ended up with nine the season before last when we won 4-2 at their place.

It should also have given the four players new to Alty a real taste of what the club is all about. I can only imagine the scenes at the final whistle.

The perfect day. Huge congratulations to the players, to Graham and to the board for providing him with the funds to recruit all the new players who've clearly made a big difference today.

All the sendings off for the Vics will surely hamper them in the coming fixtures and Oxford had a man sent off too, so presumably he'll be banned for Saturday. Oxford away suddenly doesn't look quite so daunting.

What a brilliant start to 2008.

I actually don't feel that today's was the worst performance I've seen this season, let alone in many seasons. We were far worse at Histon, to take one example. But it wasn't good enough to stay up and the underlying failings of this team are depressingly consistent:

- A long ball game with two small strikers.
- Elementary mistakes which result in goals - Little and Scott both gave the ball away cheaply in the run-up to the equaliser.
- A failure to take chances. Had Aspinall scored, the whole day may have been very different.
- A lack of fight when we're behind. With the exception of Colin Little's great second half effort, we created nothing once we went behind and never looked like a team that expected to get back level.

What I find the most depressing is that, in similar circumstances, the board at Stafford Rangers have felt that results necessitated a change. But at Alty, it feels as if we, the fans, are being told to accept the unacceptable.
I think we all understand the strictures of the part time/full time thing. What we want to see is a team playing to close to its full potential. And under the current management, we are nowhere near that.
