Yes, because getting into crippling debt when your business model involves losing £30,000 a month really is jolly bad luck, isn't it?

If there is any justice left in football (and please god there is) Then you will not be allowed to profit once again from another teams misfortune. >:(

And there must be dozens of similar stories relating to the creditors of Halifax Town and the many clubs who've gone into admin in recent seasons. The footballing authorities should be ashamed that the game is treating decent, small companies such as these with such total disregard.

Administration should equal relegation.

That would be me. Thanks for pointing it out.

How strange that they managed to capture me looking bemused and slightly angry...

Comedian eh!!!! ;D

After yesterday, I'm thinking of turning my hand to something more in the Ken Loach mould.

I've waited till today to post about yesterday's match, because I wanted to give a calm assessment.

My biggest feeling this morning is one of sadness. I wondered to myself at one point yesterday 'would a neutral fan watching this want Alty to stay in the Conference Premier?' And I think the honest answer is no. Because we simply do not try to play football. The way the team was set up yesterday (a solo striker totally unsuited to that role, two wide players who offered no threat at all, three basically defensives central midfielders), it was actually impossible for the team to play any football.

I think one of the reasons that the fans are so unhappy with GH's negative tactics is that, while he claims we'd be taken apart if we went more attacking, we've never seen any proof of that. In other words, let's see what happens if we have a go at teams. Because if it works, great, and if it doesn't at least we the fans will have more appreciation for GH's tactics this season.
The truth is though that to change the tactics now would feel like an admission of a mistake from GH, so it won't happen. Even if we somehow get to the Weymouth game needing a win to stay up, I bet we start 4-5-1.
I've not given up hope, no way. But unless things change, it does look like we're going down and in footballing terms we won't be missed. And that, above all, is what hurts me.

I voted no because i don't believe anyone is as committed to the club as Graham.  He is far more than just a manager.  He got the club into the BSP and has kept us there with no money and only part timers and loan signings.  Luck has played a major part in the fight against relegation in recent years and it will probably do so again this season, but the fact that Altrincham are still in the BSP is an amazing achievement and mainly thanks to Graham.

Actually, it's mainly thanks to Scarborough's financial woes; Canvey Town withdrawing from the league and Boston United's financial problems.

I have to say that I find the way the events of 2005/6 are continually grouped with those of 2006/7 rather irritating. It's always being done on here, in programmes, media reports etc. and it isn't fair.

No-one would dispute that we got lucky last season with Boston's problems. But what happened with Canvey and Scarborough only affected us directly because of the Robinson affair. So we did get lucky in 2005/6 too but only after an enormous slice of bad luck. In other words, the luck evened itself out that season and in the end we got what we deserved based on performances on the field - staying in the Conference.

A sad sight

Unless I'm mistaken, we never lost there. Are there any other grounds from the modern era that we can say the same about?

We've never lost at Aldershot!

Or Torquay.

So Torquay are through to the Trophy quarter-finals, which are being played on Feb 23rd.

I've mentioned this a couple of times before but I think this means that, if their q-f ends in a draw, our match with them on the 26th would have to be re-arranged yet again to make way for a replay.

It's pretty tough on our players and fans if we're only going to know whether we're definitely going to Torquay three days beforehand.

It does though mean that our game with Crawley on the 23rd will have to be re-arranged.

There is no reason why the game can't be played at 3pm on Saturday and still be televised.

Well, there is. It's illegal. UEFA regulations do not allow games to be televised at 3pm on a Saturday (the so-called 'closed period') in England and Scotland. That's why SKY, Setanta and the BBC never have live games at 3pm on a Saturday. You can sometimes watch such matches via overseas satellite services but not British broadcasters.
