Ralph was on the bench because we only have 16 senior players fit and he's one of them.

I just hope it is a better game than the away fixture or you people are in for one shocking afternoon.

We lost one nil but we largely neutralised there hoof ball that night and with a touch more luck and one less Mr Coburn moment of madness we could have come away with a point.

Therefore......

1 v 1

Fair point all round.

Aren't you getting your away defeats confused here? Stuart wasn't at fault for the goal at Histon and actually, although I didn't want to mention it at the time as it would have seemed disrespectful to the officials, I suspect there may have been a handball in the build-up. Handball, ref! Handball! Just then when he, you know, controlled it with his hand right in front of you! Handball!

From the official site:

Brian Flynn writes that:
Colin Little will be presented with the ball with which he scored his 100th goal for Altrincham, before Saturday's Blue Square Premier game with Histon. The presentation will be made by former Manchester City star Dennis Tueart. Little, a lifelong City supporter, became the first Altrincham player in almost 30 years to reach this landmark with a header in Sunday's 2-1 FA Cup victory over Newcastle Blue Star. Altrincham now travel to Luton Town in the FA Cup 1st Round.

Kick Off at Moss Lane on Saturday is 3.00pm with the presentation taking place on the pitch at 2.40pm. Little, 35, scored his first goal for the club in August 2004 against Gainsborough Trinity and his achievement is all the more remarkable as Altrincham have been in the lower reaches of the Blue Square Premier League for the majority of the time he has been at the club.

Spot on, I'd say. Getting Dennis Tueart to do the honours is a very nice touch.

The 1st is the Saturday - I imagine that JL has just forgotten to change the day as well as the date in his 'Next Game' box.

What formation did we play on Sunday?

While thoughts are understandably turning towards the Luton game, I think it'd be good to take a moment to congratulate Colin Little on reaching 100 goals for the club. A great achievement by a class act. I hope the club is planning something to honour the occasion.

He joins a pretty exclusive group who have reached this mark. The present manager is of course in there, along with two teammates from the great team of the late 70s and early 80s - Jeff Johnson and John Rogers. And then of course there's the Don Bradman of Alty goalscorers, Jackie Swindells, who nearly got 100 in a season never mind a career. I imagine there are a few others from the 60s and before but I'd guess not more than a handful. Anyone know the full list?

Too many times when we did get the ball the man in possesion had no options and we ended up playing a long ball in teh air which was easily dealt with.

Is this because the famous 3-4-3 in fact turns into a 5-2-3 when densmore and doughty become full-backs, leving the two isolated in midfield?

I hope today will not encourage us from playing attacking football.

That was the point about yesterday - we didn't play that system we've been playing in recent matches. Densmore was in central midfield, so it was a 4-3-3 and it just didn't work. Neither Doughty nor Lane looked as comfortable as conventional full-backs as they have as a wing-back and right centre-back respectively. Densmore wasn't in the game and I feel that his presence shunted Danylyk out of his favoured position and that meant he had an unusually ineffective day.

Why did we change the system that's been working so well for us? My guess is that it's that old fault of worrying too much about the opposition (and it was a response to Hollins's promise to pack the midfield) instead of about ourselves. I hope we revert to 3-4-3 for NBS.

I also felt that the substitutions in the second half never quite got the attacking balance right. Johnson was again excellent when he came on but by removing Senior, instead of one of the three central midfielders, it meant we had no threat down the right. Then when Elam was switched to the right, we had no threat down the left. Today was a day when we missed Denham.

A couple of other things - are we sure Little was flagged offside on that glaring miss at the end of the first half? I thought the linesman was just signalling a goal-kick. And I'm not sure where people are coming from with the complaints about the ref. I thought he was fine and that we could have no complaints about the second goal - it was a mix up, rather like Johnson's goal at Salisbury.

The draw for this competition... it's fixed, isn't it? In this round and the last, they've basically paired as many neighbouring (or near-ish to each other) clubs as possible, with the odd Telford v Cambridge thrown in to give a semblance of randomness.

I can't say it bothers me overly. But the nakedness of the rigging is extraordinary.

I agree with this, I think we should rest a few key players and play the likes of Street and Johnson for fitness etc.

Is there not a daft rule in this tin pot cup that we have to play 9 of the starting 11 from our last league game. Don't give us much room to change things about really?

If that's the case then Johnson for Little and Street for Danylyk for me, it would be a major blow for our league campaign for one of them to get injured.

Or maybe Street for Lawton? I assume Robbie is suspended for the game at Weymouth after the fifth booking against Oxford, so it would give Street and Danylyk a chance to play together in advance of Saturday's game.

Good man.

Myself, Rocky and JTH are all making the trip. I believe the 10.35 is the one we're planning to get.

We have a winner.

Jeff Johnson scored his 100th Alty goal in a 4-5 defeat at Kettering on September 19th 1981. I'm pretty sure no-one's done it since.

I think that puts what Colin Little's about to achieve in its true perspective. I sort of hope he doesn't get No. 100 against Farsley because it'll inevitably be a bit anti-climactic. And if he gets it at Weymouth, then I'd be there to see it.

Last time one of our players scored 100 goals for Alty?

These are all excellent answers, except in one respect...

A clue: something happened that day which hasn't happened since (I don't think) but will be happening very soon. One for Flynny, Cult etc. I'd say.

What (if I've got my sums right...) is the significance of the date September 19th 1981?

Definitely a taxi job. I know of four of us who are getting the 22.25 train back to London, so if there are more, maybe we could book a people carrier taxi.

PM me on here before 4 and we'll sort something out.

How is everyone getting from the ground to the train station afterwards - tenner for a taxi I believe?
