Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Fanatic Zone
« on: July 24, 2022, 03:47:23 PM »
These new plans for the Fan Zone make me absolutely despair. Of course it makes sense on one level for the club to maximise revenue but if the intention is just to replicate the very poor beer selection from the CSH, that will backfire massively. It's so short-sighted not to see what value Libero and other independent food outlets could add to the matchday experience. More than that though, Libero seems to have done more than the club itself to at least try and get the Fan Zone up and running. So for us to boot them out now is really shoddy. Incredibly disappointing.

I don't think it's appropriate to name the person.

He may have read this and be reconsidering his view (I doubt it but you never know)

He might even post an apology (although I've never known him apologise for anything before)

Could you at least tell us where you've seen these comments? I've not read anything but support and admiration from Alty fans for her.

Millenic Alli can be seen training with the squad in the recent photos on the website. Hayden Campbell too, I think.

Definitely Hayden Campbell - the Salford kit confirms it.

I think we need a marquee winger to replace Mooney as an absolute priority, I don't see who's stepping up to contribute his numbers unless we can get Jordan firing. Followed by a left-back to compete with Brockbank, who may be the real deal, but if he's not then we're going to look really weak in that position. I'm not too concerned about him being thrown in at the deep end mind, Joel Senior had only ever played proper football for FC United (NPL) and a couple of games at Curzon Ashton before joining us. He seems to be very highly rated, not just by our own manager, and he's the player I'm most excited to see in pre-season.

My concern at this stage with the squad so far is where are the goals going to come from? We've lost Mooney and Hancock and haven't replaced either yet. I can't see Hulme being prolific (hope I'm wrong), so that only leaves Colclough and to an extent Kosylo. I'm sure we will be bringing one or two more attacking players in but they need to be top quality, as you say.

Online sale of season tickets have closed according to the website. Having never bought a season ticket and just pay on the gate each week, how do you now buy one?

No, they're still available:

I’m happy with that. I thought he was better than Ferguson but I seemed to be in the minority.

At the very least we’ll start with a centre back partnership of Cooper and Mullarkey which was solid enough this season before we start titting about with others.

Baines sounds a good player but at least I’ve seen these two play together.

Would like us to get Perrett and Jones too.

I certainly think Cooper was unlucky not to be starting as he hadn't done anything wrong (in fact, his first big error came right at the end of the season) - but I do think Ferguson looked a particularly super player.

Given the reputation Baines brings with him, I actually think it'll be him and Toby with Jake Cooper in reserve. If clubs come back for Toby, then Cooper will step in like Toby did when James Jones left.

I'd love Harry Perritt back, but I think Accy will probably want to have a good luck at him in pre season because he's good enough to be a squad lpayer for them immediately.

I did think Jones might have been released by Stoke, but given they brought him back for their U23s they must still have him in their plans. He'll be more realistic than Perritt imo.

Not quite true. Cooper made a big mistake that led to the corner from which Southend took the lead against us at Roots Hall. He seemed to carry the can for that loss and it opened the door for Ferguson. I do though think that Cooper looked a solid player and at 21 is an excellent signing.

I don't have a good feeling about how this is going to play out but one sliver of hope I do have comes from what Phil said to me after the Bromley game:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBR2lBsh14o

I'm talking about his answer at around the 7'30" mark. I really hope that sense that his best days here are still ahead of him is what swings it.

Don't know if anyone on here will know the answer to this but am I right in assuming this also replaces the Alty Rewards scheme (which I have a £10 a month direct debit set up for)? If so, are we meant to cancel the direct debit for that? Or will the club stop taking payments?

Just a couple of points.
Firstly, I don't think we're building a massive squad and we've got fifteen already so only four or five more to come I'd say.
Secondly, I'd say you're correct in saying more experienced players will be coming in over the next couple of weeks. My wishes would be for a keeper, centre back, wide player and a number nine. It isn't easy, that's why it's seemed to be taking so long.
Keep the faith!

On the first point, I'm sure we'll end up with a lot more players on our books than we will have in our first team squad (which we're told will be 18-20). Lads like the one we've just signed will, I would guess, mostly be out on loan to develop them towards the first team in a year or two.

Absolutely , it get's stronger by the year , i really think it's time for 3 up 3 down to be considered.

Many recall the days league clubs being set against any automatic promotion, now so many ex-league clubs are in the NL that wheel has certainly turned.

Wasn’t the then Luton chairman (one Eric Morecambe) one of the ones who voted against Alty joining the league.

Extract from my When We Were Kings article covering the 1980 re-election travesty:

The votes cast in the eventual Football League re-election poll for the 1979/80 season were as follows: Darlington: 49; Crewe Alexandra: 48; Hereford United: 48; Rochdale: 26 and Altrincham: 25. If the Robins had received just one additional vote and tied with the Spotland club, a second ballot featuring only those two candidates would have ensued, in which the eligible electors were then obliged to cast a single vote for the club of their choice. In the two preceding instances when it had proved necessary to hold a second round of voting, the Non League club had, indeed, prevailed on each occasion and, hence, had secured admission into the Football League (Hereford United defeating Barrow in 1972 and Wigan Athletic overcoming Southport in 1978).

Alty‘s initial emotions of intense heartache and sheer disbelief at this cruel news that they had failed to displace Rochdale by just two votes were subsequently exacerbated by disillusionment and the impression that they had been cheated, when it emerged that two clubs had actually omitted to vote and the absence of their ballot papers had not been detected until after the AGM had concluded.

The first of the culprits to be identified were Second Division Luton Town, whose delegation of representatives had been late in arriving for the meeting after ostensibly getting held up in London’s traffic. Their Chairman, Denis Mortimer, duly released a statement: “The traffic was bad and we were delayed. To be fair to everyone involved, I am not going to reveal who we would have voted for.”

I seem to remember Graham Heathcote saying the reason the other club didn't vote was because their chairman got drunk and fell asleep when the vote was being taken. Was it Grimsby?

There will be a very stark North/South split if Solihull do go up and with Kings Lynn having gone down - a complete void between Notts County (the southernmost of the northern teams) and Boreham Wood (the northernmost of the southern teams).

Another sh*t National league ref at Wrexham today,

Extra time being played 4-4

Adam Herczeg, who was the referee when we were promoted at Boston.

I have never heard such a stinging criticism of a referee from a manager as Phil Parkinson's after today's game.

Absolutely. There were a lot of refereeing mistakes in that game but the other PP should have mentioned that his team benefitted from at least as many of them as they suffered from.

I think it would be a huge loss if Dan Mooney leaves - especially for nothing too.

His inclusion in the team does tend to coincide with our upturns in form - and his absence the opposite - and his goal return has been excellent this season.

Let's hope Parky and Sorvs can work their magic and persuade him his future lies here on a full-time basis.

If Mooney does leave, I believe we’ll get some sort of compensation fee because of his age. Clearly it would be better if he stays though.

Perritt I believe is under contract at Accrington for next season so the best we can hope for with him is another loan.
