Perhaps Coo is the best of what is available, would you prefer we signed nobody and went into the season with 15 men?

No, I'd prefer that we signed a better standard of player rather than just someone who will make up the numbers.

Although there are many things I wouldn't wnat Asa to do, play left back for example, taking penalties isn't one of them. His record is absolutely exceptional. Since he's been here I can only recall 1 miss v St. Albans in about 5 years. Are you sure you're thinking of the right player?

Ballers,

How could you forget Aspinall's penalty miss on a foggy Saturday in Southport last season?!

I'm sorry....but Cavell Coo is simply not up to the required standard.
So easily knocked off the ball.

As Ballers has commented, tonight's performance was a replica of so many games from last season.
We lacked creativity and any threat down the wings and made very few chances.

I'd try Ballers at left full back...

Do we run a pre-match sweepstake to see who is going to play at left full back?

Having seen the three home friendlies to date, my honest assessment would be that only Chris Baguley looks to have any real potential.

Why is it the same price for a STAR member and a non-member?  I thought there was a discount for STAR members?  About the only benefit members get from their membership  :-\

But never mind, it is still a far more co-operative and useful organisation than it used to be at one time with certain people running the show!   :)

Can't help but think that you are a little out of order with that last comment.

You may dislike certain individuals who represented STAR but they gave up a lot of their time to raise funds for Altrincham FC.
Have you forgotten the successful Birmingham 20 event already?

Besides, as we are still awaiting Part II of the STAR AGM...I'm not quite sure who is elected to be "running the show" these days!

Had to smile at that spokesman for Wigan Athletic rattling on about how they were refused entry to the Football League despite winning their league every season.

When they were admitted to the old Fourth Division in 1978, Wigan were runners-up to Boston United (who, incidentally, also won the Northern Premier League in 1976/77...!).

Agree with you that Warren struggled today. But hey Cult, you forgot to mention our left winger, who ran their full back a merry dance.

I don't have a problem with Chris Senior as a left winger, as he gives us some much-needed pace down the flank.
It's just that I don't regard him as a central striker and still believe that we need another option in that department.

That was a very attacking formation that we began with against Rotherham.....and I doubt that we'd start any away games with both Potts and Senior out on the wings!

Just wish that we could unearth a proper left back in order to free up Peyton for potential midfield duties.

One of those games that entertain the spectators but probably drive the respective managers to despair.

Highlights were a nice (dare I say it) Heathcote-esque free kick from Sedgemore and an exquisite finish by Colin Little for the fifth goal.

Would I be correct in thinking that most of the Rotherham goals came via attacks down their right wing?

Has anyone on here mentioned that Alty could do with a left full back by any chance....?

So who was the odd one out then?

Of the 12 players who featured in the first of the Tottenham FA Cup ties, only John Owens and Barry Howard were clean shaven.

I would have thought we were probably rather tach heavy in those days?!?

You're not wrong!

Just dug out the programme from the 1979 FA Cup tie against Tottenham and the Alty team photograph shows the following players with facial hair:

Stan Allan (moustache);
Jeff Johnson (moustache);
Mal Bailey (beard);
Peter Eales (beard);
Graham Heathcote (moustache);
Mickey Brooke (beard);
John Rogers (moustache);
John King (beard);
John Davison (moustache);
Ivan Crossley (beard).

Have Alty ever fielded a more hirsute team?!

On my drunken journey home last night from Liverpool Street to Cheshunt I thought it would be funny to say to this guy that he must be an Arsenal fan (we were in Tottenham territory).

Anyway he was a Tottenham fan so naturally the conversation turned to Alty. This guy had been at our first match with them and he said he remembered that he wasn't all too surprised at the result as Tottenham were on a terrible run including a 5 love humping against Arsenal.

He did however say he remembered that we had a player called Heathcote! Graham must have made some impression Norf of the river!

GRAHAM, GRAHAM HEATHCOTE, HE'S THE GREATEST MAN IN HISTORY!!

It was probably due to the dodgy moustache that GH was sporting at that time....!

If the statement "About the ony benefit members get from their membership" is not a political one I don't know what it is. It certainly isn't a factual one, since the main benefit you get from being a member of STAR is the knowledge that your membership fee is helping the club.

But on that basis, surely I could simply achieve the same warm feeling by just giving the club a £10.00 note each season instead and not even bother to renew my STAR Membership?

I have to say that I am confused about exactly what STAR offers these days (and, yes, I am still a member!).

Any guidance?
