Strange game.

We were awful for some periods of the match, but could still have won it more comfortably via those two late chances for Newby and Amaluzor respectively, plus that deflected Newby free kick which was parried onto the crossbar (three decent saves by their goalkeeper).

Calamitous header by Donowa for their equaliser.

We certainly improved once Parkinson had withdrawn Angus, both defensively and as an attacking threat.

Credit to Baines, yet again, for two extremely timely defensive blocks during the first half.

In his post-match excitement at a third consecutive victory, Parkinson completely forgot about our pivotal three wins in eight days against Woking, Barnet and Solihull Moors last February!

The last three results have been both splendid and rewarding, but the squad is certainly looking ominously threadbare once again.

Dinanga was never used properly or given a chance by Management unfortunately.

Odd that we are the only place where he's not been prolific??

MarpleAlty hits the nail firmly on the head in his above response.

Dinanga made 33 (+14 as sub) appearances during his tenure at Alty, so I'm not quite sure how you can say that the management team didn't give him plenty of opportunities. If anything, they were extremely loyal to him when things just weren't working out.

He certainly wasn't even remotely prolific during his respective spells with Hartlepool, Chesterfield and Stevenage.

He didn't suit our system. He manifestly fits well with the one played at Gateshead.

Now, I wonder whether we negotiated a sell-on clause when we sold him to Gateshead...?!

Yesterday marked the first time that we have scored six goals in the top flight of Non League football since a 6-2 victory at Boston United on Wednesday, 27th February 1991.

A decent player and a useful addition in the short term but I can't help but think that a pacy winger would have been a better fit.

Alty press releases describes him as "a free-scoring winger who can also play in central midfield".

'Free-scoring' does seem a trifle generous, but let's hope that it turns out to be an inspired prophecy!

I received the following message from a Hartlepool supporter this morning:

"We've now played 27 games since our last clean sheet at Doncaster in February, and we're closing in on our club record of 31, set in the 1927/28 season when the change in the offside law led to a nationwide glut of goals."

Interesting that the match previewer for the Hartlepool game on the official club website seems to be under the misapprehension that Tom Jones made his debut at Wealdstone!

"Young prospect Tom Jones, stepping in for the injured Matty Kosylo, emerged as a particular bright spot in a match where clear-cut attacking opportunities were sparse for both sides."

I look forward to seeing what he can do on the green, green grass of home.

Watched the National League TV stream, which featured some very dodgy camerawork (including at one point bizarrely zooming in on the anti-pigeon netting underneath the roof of the main stand!).

We were comprehensively outplayed and Barnet could easily have doubled their goal tally.

I would say that Ethan Ross is the only Alty player to have emerged with any credit from what was a hugely dispiriting performance.

Merely two shots of note on target, from Crankshaw and Amaluzor respectively. Conn-Clarke a peripheral figure. Ponderous stuff, once again, and our defence looked about as watertight as HM Prison Wandsworth. Embarrassingly fast asleep for that corner which resulted in their third goal.

I am already worried about Banks (who was fortunate to avoid a second yellow card) and Joey Jones looks light years off the pace.

We can only pray that Crankshaw's injury isn't as serious as it looked. Amidst rumours that Regan Linney will be out of action until Christmas, the necessity to enter the loan market looms large once again.

Lacklustre performance against a classic Bromley outfit who were patient and waited until they sensed blood... which was when the tippy tappy got absolutely ridiculous.

I have to say Isaac Marriott doesn't seem to be his usual influential self; I wasm't sure whether it was just because Elliott has impressed by comparison, but only one of them seems to be showing for the ball and it certainly isn't Isaac.

We hugely missed Regan and he needs to start whenever he's available - I hope we don't get into a situation where Cricky plays because we paid a lot of money for him, because I agree he should have beem hooked today, he wasn't really at the races all afternoon.

Regarding the goalkeeper, I take the middle ground on the matter... he's looked decent but he's not passed his audition yet. He has every chance to do so, of course - and I think he will.

Agree with the aforementioned synopsis.

That second-half performance was largely ponderous and laboured.

I don't think that either of our full-backs offer much as an attacking force. Too many times, they simply double back and then play the easy ball back to one of our central defenders.

Oh for a John Davison, Joel Senior or Shaun Densmore!

Woefully slapdash overplaying by Alty in the build-up to their winning goal. Marriott just hasn't quite got going this season to date, in my eyes.

Squad still looks far too shallow and short of options.

A dispiriting day.

First casualty of the season already.

I can't imagine Unsworth will be too far behind him at this rate.

Second casualty.

Eastleigh axed Lee Bradbury last week.

Just seen that Macc conceded an equaliser 10 minutes into 5 added minutes!!!

Made me feel much better 😁

And the goalscorer was our old friend Dean Furman, too.

Definitely a case of mixed feelings.

Fylde certainly deserved a point, but having been 2-0 and 3-2 up respectively, it's disappointing that we have been unable to secure a victory.

After a nondescript opening 30 minutes, some timely poaching from Linney (although the goalkeeper should have done better with Angus' initial shot) and a splendid piece of finishing from Angus gave us a somewhat flattering lead.

It was frustrating early in the second half to see Marriott replace Linney, as it seemed to signal that we were surrendering the initiative to the team who possess the worst defensive record in the league.

James Jones was done again for their first penalty and then outjumped by Omotayo for their second goal.

The penalty awarded for the apparent foul on Amaluzor did look a trifle generous, to my eyes.

All afternoon, we had looked vulnerable when defending crosses and it was no great surprise when Obi duly outjumped Cooper to nod home their third goal in the dying embers of the game.

I hope that the injury suffered by George Wilson is not serious.

The euphoric denouement almost evoked memories of a 1970s Alty FA Cup giant-killing act!

Chesterfield dominated the first half, albeit whilst creating few goalscoring opportunities. Disappointing to concede such a cheap goal from that corner.

As the second half progressed, you could sense that Alty were building up momentum and Dior Angus' two clinical finishes certainly helped to dispel my initial reservations about him. Let's hope that he can stay fit and maintain that high standard.

The renaissance of Elliot Osborne has been an unanticipated and hugely welcome bonus. I thought that he was outstanding yesterday.

As others have mentioned in this thread, the depth of our squad remains the major concern. We are going to have to get very lucky as regards injuries and suspensions.

Extremely sad news, on what has been a grim few days for the club.

I first took note of him as a winger to fear in that powerful Runcorn team of the 1970s, alongside the likes of Mal Bailey, Alan King, Barry Whitbread, Phil Wilson and Trevor Finnigan.

What delight then duly unfolded when Alty finally contrived to sign him from Stockport County in the summer of 1978.

Such a valuable and entertaining member of that all-conquering Alty team. He was so good that we even forgave him for adopting that Keeganesque perm!

I particularly recall him mercilessly tormenting Stewart Houston and scoring two goals in our 3-0 FA Cup First Round Replay annihilation of Sheffield United at Moss Lane in November 1981. One of the great Alty nights.

Simply a class act.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Banks is definitely a sensible option to cut out the threat presented by Ryan Colclough.

Chesterfield seem to be playing Armando Dobra on the left flank and Ryan Colclough on the right wing, so Eddy Jones may well be the latter's direct opponent.
