Tony Williams has penned an article on Alty's Alliance/Conference highlights and FA Cup/Trophy history.

Plenty of photographs of Alty at Anfield and playing against the likes of Tottenham, Orient and so forth.

Well worth investing in a copy.

If any Alty exiles are struggling to locate a copy of this issue, let me know and I'll see if I can accumulate some extra copies from local sources.

A Boston United supporter informs me that he is rumoured to be destined to sign for Rushden and Diamonds.

Altrincham FC First Team / The One That Got Away...

From John Laidlar's splendid website:

England National Game XI squad:

Nicky Bull (Aldershot), Billy Turley (Oxford), Adam Yates (Morecambe), Jon Ashton (Rushden & Diamonds), Jamie Stuart (Grays), Anwar Uddin (Dagenham & Redbridge), Kieran Charnock (Northwich), Billy Jones (Exeter), Michael Carr (Northwich), Stuart Thurgood (Grays), Neal Bishop (York), Glen Southam (Dagenham & Redbridge), Lee Elam (Exeter), Andy Burgess (Oxford), Paul Benson (Dagenham & Redbridge), Robbie Simpson (Cambridge), Charlie McDonald (Gravesend), Dennis Oli (Grays)".

What a pity that Morecambe snaffled him back in August.

Let's hope that we do actually have a recognised left full back (and that excludes Andy Scott!) on the books next season.

From John Laidlar's splendid website:

GEOFF CLARIFIES THINGS
Following the report in SAM earlier this week, (see below) Alty chairman Geoff Goodwin has clarified his view on the club's relegation from Conference National. Geoff has confirmed that he would have liked the club to have retained its Conference National status and to play at the highest level achievable but he is determined to look positively at the consequences of being relegated to the Conference (Blue Square) northern division.

Desperate and furious backpedalling......or has someone at the club had a quiet word in his ear?!

Altrincham FC First Team / It just gets worse.....!

Excerpt from John Laidlar's excellent Altrincham FC website:

"Chairman Geoff Goodwin reversed his decision to step down...saying:

'Relegation will be a godsend, it will be the making of the club."

So, why on earth did we all pay our money to get into Moss Lane last Saturday and pray for an Alty win?

Well, thank goodness Colin Little missed that good chance at the Golf Road End....

Extraordinary.

Altrincham FC First Team / My heart goes out to Barry Pond...

He works admirably to attract sponsors to Moss Lane and now next season he is faced with the unenviable task of trying to persuade people to sponsor a home game against Redditch or Vauxhall Motors rather than the likes of Oxford United or York City.

Well, at least our Chairman is looking forward to a return to the Blue Square/Conference North....

Stafford Rangers...1   Altrincham...0

Tuesday, 27th March 2007
Altrincham...0   Stafford Rangers...1

To summarise: six points gifted to one of our main relegation rivals.

Two dreadful games in which we couldn't score a single goal against a fellow part-time team.

Altrincham FC First Team / Bumper Crowd?
« on: April 25, 2007, 12:51:34 PM »
It states on John Laidlar's ever-excellent website that "Altrincham FC are hoping for a bumper gate" for the Aldershot game on Saturday......but are we honestly expecting many more than the usual suspects to turn out for this one?

It would be nice to think that we could attract over 2,000 spectators, as Tamworth did last Saturday, but the eternal pessimist in me just doesn't believe that this will happen.

Have any additional incentives been pondered over to tempt locals through the turnstiles?

I expect Halifax to win at least one of their remaining two home games, which leaves Grays as our most realistic hope as the team to finish below us.....as long as they don't beat Kidderminster on Tuesday evening.

Alas, with the FA Trophy final on their minds, will Kiddy be that bothered?

So, the prediction is: Grays to draw at home to Kiddy and draw/lose at Morecambe next week.....and Alty to beat Aldershot.

Sorted!

I can't recall watching a football match so devoid of skill, flair, imagination or technique as the 90 minutes of unrelenting drivel that I witnessed at Tamworth today.

On that evidence, both those teams will be relegated and (you'd have to say) deservedly so.

Alty's first half performance was simply a disgrace.

Still too irate by it all to write much more.
