Altrincham FC First Team / Re: How will SINNOUT defend that performance
« on: November 09, 2014, 08:40:50 PM »
Too add to my previous post, the trully shocking performances under Sinnott have been against teams in lower divisons or teams right at the bottom, this is a clear indication of teams raising their game against us and we just don't match it! I saw more passion in the Warrington manager in 5 minutes than Sinnott in how many years. Never will be an Alty manager for me and I've said it from day one. Yes he got us promoted and it was amazing experience but that league is bloody awful!

Can't comment on the game, I wasn't there.

I think I've settled on the idea that Sinnott is an okay manager. He does well in some situations, he doesn't in others. He brings in some good players (Walshaw basically got us promoted), but he also brings in some donkeys (Ryan Brooke?). Arguably he should have taken us up a season earlier, but we improved year on year and did eventually get promoted. It's not unusual for clubs too big for their level to get stuck there for 5 or even 10 years. So at least we can give him his dues for that.

As for today...I don't know whether the problem today was tactics, formation, tiredness (we played away midweek, they rested) or what. But if it appeared to be fight and motivation, surely that's down to the players? Win against Blyth and they're one game away from Old Trafford or Anfield. These blokes aren't imbeciles - if they can't be arsed putting a shift in up at some ramshackle ground because they can't make the connection that they might play in front of 40,000+ and earn the club hundreds of thousands in the process, then what can Sinnott do? He's not a baby-sitter. He's a football manager of grown men.

I'm not sure this idea that the players should be able to motivate themselves is relevant.

I agree that you'd hope they'd be up for a game like this, but it's obvious that they aren't. The buck stops with the manager and he's ultimately responsible for the attitude of the players. If he can't get them in the right mindset he's failed.

This is why we have a manager, if players could motivate and organise themselves we wouldn't need to employ one!
[/quote I I do think that the players have a lot to answer for but still he selects players that aren't up to the task, knowing the tempo will be high and past knowledge that Blyth are tough do you start Lawrie, most talented player we have but the answer for me is no. Now going back to baby sitting the players, I agree partially to that but when do Alty come out flying nowadays? I use Graham Heathcote as my example because he was around for the majority of my supporting years. Graham didnt often have the most talented players to manager but he had them fighting, other teams knew they played us. We battled, we got stuck in and we had heart, this is what Sinnot doesn't put into the players, numerous times he makes ridiculous and baffling decisions.  We are too honest which sounds weird but we aren't clever at all in tactics, we are soft ( no wonder we wond most fair play award a couple of seasons back, as we don't get stuck in). Football is not just about talent, it is being mentally prepared and Sinnott hasn't got that ability as a manager, never doubted his ability to see a good footballer apart from some obvious selections like Brooke, Perry, Marshall and a few others. For me he just doesn't get them up for it and that's half the battle and when it's going wrong he doesn't change it or maybe he doesn't see it! This is why I feel the manager has  a lot to answer for, any decent manager with this current team would write down Leather and Havern centre back no matter what and injury to others. He makes far too many basic mistakes!]

Soft team and soft manager! I posted about Warrington on Friday because I just knew we wouldn't turn up, this team wouldn't nver put in a performance like Warrington did. Only time I have walked away in the recent years and though every player gave their all is against Guiseley in the final and Macc this season.

We need new players and manager! too soft, get bullied far too often

1760
Yes Perry lad prove me wrong !

Sounds awful, we just don't get up for it! We are too much of a soft team, I appreciate Warrington's performance wasn't pretty but that heart, grit and determination is what we miss often! Never a Lawrie game, need Luca and Scott back together, we should never split them, evens with injuries to others. Sounds like Marshall is having another horror, he's a bloody awful defender. What the hell is Perry going to do ?I am saying this now, we need a more passionate and aggressive manager! Come on Alty make me eat my words, please !!! 'poor defending again by Tom Marshall' I hear and see this all bloody season, just awful

Please let us not forget that whilst Griffin has been absent for 3 games we have conceded only one goal. Don't  the back four deserve a pat on the back for that, whatever your thoughts on Marshall's ablity or Scott being out of position. The problem is the 6 in front of them and the inter passing between them.

For starters, I would start Williams ahead of Cavanagh and replace Perry. He shouldn't be at the club and as for him being an "impact sub" I need to look up the definition of impact. Without checking the Oxford dictionary I think it  means the kinetic  energy wasted when you hit the  deck when it would have been easier to stay on your feet. A  cameo role at Halifax does not make him worthy of an Alty shirt.

As for Crowther and Gillespie I dont see how we can expect them to shine when their total game time amounts to three fifths of diddly squat. I'm surprised they know their teammates' names. If they had been given as much game time as Perry they would have been able to develop a much better understanding with each other and with the rest of the team. Players that have started barely adequately but have improved because of continued selection include Griffin, Richman and Lawrie. I think Gillespie and Crowther deserve that same consideration. Perry has proved that no matter how much time you give him, he will always be a waste of a clean strip.

Some good points, I used the wrong term in impact sub as I didn't mean that.  What I meant was he has a role to play in coming on as a sub.

He doesn't get enough goals but he is capable of scoring.

He is an excellent player to bring on with 15-20 mins to go to hold it up and frustrate the opposition into giving away silly free kicks or getting booked or sent off.  His equaliser at Alfreton was timely and his goal at Barwell settled things nicely.    He gets very little credit at all on here ( although I have heard people not on here say it ) for some of the balls he plays.   People only focus on the negatives, the pass that went astray or the ball he didn't chase as he knew he wouldn't get it.  I don't want him to start games but in a club of our size where we aren't going to have superstars on the bench he will do for me.  Just my opinion.

Always respect your thoughts Ecky but I can't agree on Kyle, if he even tried and gave his all then I'll be less critical but he is so lazy. To survive this league we can't have any passengers, because we simply aren't good enough. There will be keener, fitter and quicker lads in lower divisions that would jump at the chance to play for Alty and who would have more of an impact than Perry.  It's not just because he is poor but lazy that I dislike.  Everyone has the right to have their opinion but we are carrying 5-6 players and I don't want to go back down to th tin pot league when a few tweaks and new faces would put us around mid table or just below.

I feel like cutting and pasting my post from a few weeks ago because I am going to sound like a parrot but until Lee gets the basics right then I will keep posting.

That game is why I will never ever totally warm to Lee Sinnott as a Manager. He could argue that he selected a weaker team for rotation and freshen it up but these are our three point games. Alfreton were awful but we were a disgrace.

I am not naive to think we should be getting results every week but that was complete and utter garbage and it was down to tactics and having no tempo or passion yet AGAIN.

We lost that game after the 20th minute and how it took the clueless bloke to make changes ten mins before the end baffles me. Not surprised Gillespie missed but you can’t get into a game unless you have a decent 15 mins plus. Before some idiot mentions the Richman sub, that was made due to injury.

Now time to repeat myself :-

Perry wasn’t even Conference North standard and he looks worst than a Sunday league pub team player in this league. He wouldn’t touch the ball with my Sunday team, I swear I am not taking the mick, because the pitches are smaller and compact he wouldn’t touch it because he does not move. Never on the front foot, never in the correct area, shy’s away from supporting on throw ins. Can not retain the ball, well over weight and unfit. How many managers would play him?????????? There will be sooooo many better strikers in the leagues below. Get rid, waste of player and money.

Lawrie is a central only player, very intelligence behind the striker but not at all intelligent on the wing. He drifts inside far too often and when we play Kyle we end up hitting long balls and don’t ever get anywhere in the centre of the pitch. Lawrie drifting in makes the area ‘too busy’ and we always lose it. Our best chances come from out wide with drilled crosses into the box, usually from Richman or Densmore.

Cavanagh is a good player but I think he slows us down and leaves Moult with too much to do. Sean Williams and Moult have more energy and better closing down. Sean was awful when he came on but he had less than ten mins and any footballer will tell you that it is so hard to get into a game with that lack of time.

Tom Marshall, I’ll start with the positive, he had an OK last ten mins before this he over hit every single past through the centre, his short passing is dodgy and at times only just reached the man. He is very slow at shifting the ball forward. Anyone who still rates him then look at our win percentage with him in the team, Havern not his confident self today and like I have previously said anyone would be nervous playing  alongside him. Again overweight and unfit. Positionally awful in the box.

We again played without tempo and were so slow and moving the ball, this was a must win game against a very poor team.  I personally would have changed the tactics after twenty minutes and certainly brought the subs on around 60 mins. How the manager could not see what was happening in front of him today baffles and angers me.

Our chances only came from attacking out wide. We do need another decent winger who will take people on and get to the byline, maybe even two with Clee’s injury record. We need another centre back to keep Havern and Leather on their toes, a left back and a forward.

Our best team without a doubt is :-
GK Coburn
RB Densmore
LB Griffin
CB Havern
CB Leather

LW Clee
CM Moult ( proper unsung hero that lad )
CM Williams
RW Richman

CF Lawrie
CF Reeves

Pathetic team selection, tactics and poor ability to recognise that we lost the game in the 20th minute. Waste of time and money I haven’t got.

1768

I apologise for always starting a separate thread but I always hope Lee reads it hahaha I think he might have done. That was the best performance in years, I mean years!!!! What a performance from the off.

I am buzzzzzzzing.

The tempo was something else, I am a realist and understand that can’t be every week but half that effort we’ll stay up.

Lets please end the centre back debate – LEATHER + HAVERN is different gravy. Anyone with even half a brain must have seen that tonight. Leather was out of this conference world. People will say we didn’t have a right back but we never should sacrifice our best centre back. I would have put Sean Williams there for the games Dens missed.

Griifin I have criticised but immense tonight, the whole team but back four solid.

Special mention to the man I refer to as the ‘unsung hero’ Jake Moult, won so many balls.

Richman in the first half was immense, the energy we needed was brought into the team and he contributes to that. Faded second half but to be fair it came left a lot.

I said after last game Nicky is slightly unfit and lacking confidence, just run at them mate. We won’t criticise you for being direct.

Lawrie is the most frustrating player we have because he is by far the best technical player we have. First half he lost the ball and was being soft again, second half he was closing down, being strong, running it with. That’s his best position.

I have stated these points all season and tonight make’s me more happy than anyone will ever realise.

Coburn more confident with Luca and Leather in front.

I don’t expect that each week, I appreciate we are part time but just half that boys and we’ll do it. We still need players and the likes of Perry and Marshall do need to move on. Fitness, energy and drive, those two have none.

I LOVED THAT !!!!

Well said,  at times we look like boys,  now step up as men. Every ball lads, close down higher up, be more direct and have some belief.  It's eleven v eleven,  this game means soooooo much. Us fans deserve a performance!

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Sinnott how do you rate your performance?

I hear some people say Marshall deserves his place over Luca but Luca's confidence has been knocked player next to a fat clueless centre back. Get a clip board and pen and watch all highlights noting down defensive mistakes and I promise you that Marshall will come out with the highest tally by a distance.  I ain't out to get him, it's there too see, so many times it's his man who knocks it in or he goes missing and Luca is stood between two men.
